Jumbo jet is crashed in test
NASA got an old Boeing 720 (not a jumbo jet, but a slightly smaller version of 707-120 by 2.54m) and remotely piloted it, and crashed it into a purpose built runway, covered with railway stones. They crashed it to test out a 'new' type of Jet A-1 fuel. I think it was called Jet A-2, but I am not too sure about that. It failed anyway, so it was a complete waste of money, in my eyes anyway.

Trying to make a fuel less flammable is like trying to create powdered water. It just isn't possible. However, the crash does look really cool and nobody (dummies excluded) got hurt, so this clip earns 5 stars in my eyes. ^_^

By WilBen 1114431266 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe crash was conducted to test a new fuel is correct. It was suppose to restrict the fuel's ability to atomize from a ruptured fuel tank during a crash, therefore reducing the probability of fires associated with the crash. Smoke and fire being the largest killer of survivors.

this is (a) not even remotely close to a jumbo jet...like come on, a Boeing 707 (of any model type) is waaaaaaaaaaay smaller then a 747. (b) the aircraft was remotely piloted and crashed on purpose at Edwards Air Force Base in California. They were testing a less flamable fuel, and well, as you can see, they didn't make it less flamable... Obviously the person who posted this video didn't see the whole thing, cause they would have heard everything i just said. Also the passengers, were actually test dummies, not actually people...wow some people are stupid.
did i hear this guy wrong or did he say there were 240 pasengers on the plane, i dont think any 1 would risk their life to test this out

By Mentor 1129716244 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removegood thing there's no people in plane - it must be hot in there!
By Rettman 1123687381 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt was a controlled crash with radio controls. It was to test a new form of fuel that wasn't too flamable but it failed badly. Later generations of that fuel is now used in U.S military planes. You can actuly get that fuel, I believe its called JP5 <?> but its just expensive and hard to distribite to all the airliners. Again, Safty comes at a cost and the airliners don't use it.
