      In Alaska there was ( I am not sure if the bear is still there) a grizzly that had its teeth and claws removed. The bear was in a bar where people could pay to box him. I know it is cruelty to animals, but this did start before animal rights was an issue. Well, the bear toothless and clawless still could knock a guy out. They not something to mess with. If you see one, just remember this, " You do not have to out run the bear, just the people that you are with".

      Ive been about 15 feet from a grizzlie all by myself in Ovando MT, you just dont want to alarm the bear if close up, your supose to slowly walk away backwards facing the bear but do not look the bear in the eyes, climbing a tree doesnt ussualy work like they show on movies due to the fact that bears climb trees, and if the tree is too small for the bear to climb then they just knock it over. this bear i came apon was all sorts of riled up, but i just slowly walked away and he clamed down. but if that doesnt work and there is a steep hill just run down that, bears can not run down hill as fast as a human.
