Viewing Hippos in the river on afternoon game viewing - Wildlife in Lower Zambezi National Park
Lower Zambezi National Park is located on the southern end of Zambia and covers an area of 4092 square kilometers. The Lower Zambezi Valley is a huge rift in the earth's crust. Over the millennia, mineral-rich volcanic soils deposited by the Zambezi have nurtured lush vegatotion, while old river meanders and ox-bow lakes provide an added attraction for wildlife. There are national parks on both sides of the Zambezi River: Mana Pools National Park on the Zimbabwean bank, and the Lower Zambezi National Park on the Zambian side.
The riverine landscape of Lower Zambezi National Park is beautiful: tall leadwoods, ebonies, acacias and figs stand on carpets of rich grassland. Wildlife congregates near the river. Buffalo and elephant graze on its islands, sometimes swimming across, while impala are everywhere, and kudu, eland, waterbuck, bushbuck, zebra ond grysbok ore common. In terms of specific on wildlife: Lion, leopard and spotted hyena are the big predators, with some unusually large prides of lion. The birdlife is rich around, 350 species have been recorded here.
Zambia safaris offer Africa's authentic yesteryear safari camps and lodges for those wanting to see wildlife away from the crowds. With 4-6 rooms on average, Zambia has maintained an authentic African safari experience where a native Zambian actually participates and benefits from trickle down tourism. Having few numbers of visitors has an inverse relationship to the quality of experience: the fewer the number of vehicles and tourists, the more preserved the environment, and subsequently a better the wilderness and wildlife experience in Africa. On Zambia Travel: Planning Zambia vacations, after seeing the whole Africa safari experience in Kenya and Tanzania's safari park and reserves, truly means you have graduated to the next best level of African safaris. By then it will not be about the glitz and glamor of your Africa safari lodge, safari camp, hotel, but how authentic you want the experience to be. I hope this is beneficial in planning a Zambia holiday. Thank you for supporting Africa and its potential. In Zambia You can experience the finest wildlife, Zambia's famous walking safari, low environmental impact safaris, varied Zambian cultures with over 74 tribes.
