- it is actually called the mirrored egg
the smoke particles from the candle cause the water to stay partially suspended around the egg. with the light refraction in the glass it causes a mirror illusion, the video quality does not do it justice, its somthing pretty neat to look at if ya get bored enough to burn an egg and put it in water. lol

the carbon from the flame is hydrophobic. it repells water. so when emersed in water there is a layer of air bubbles around the egg. the light reflects inside these bubbles making the egg apear smaller. it is not the yoke, but am image of the egg from inside these bubbles. which makes it appear smaller.
