Alligator attacks after distress call. A 5 year old girl was standing in the same spot where I filmed this. This is how I found the alligator, she was by herself about 200 ft from her parents. She was staring into the water and I walked over to see what she was looking at. This is what I found.

    It was at a State Wildlife Life facility. This is usually very common where alligators and people frequent in large numbers. I have seen this on many occaisions, but this is the first that I had a camera in this situation. The grunt has many meanings as well, to adult males such as this one, it could mean an opportunity for food, such as the alligator that is grunting.

    That noise the cameraman is making is a "baby distress" call. Alligator babies make that noise when they are in distress and it drives adult alligators nuts. They are VERY protective and will attack anything that could be harming or threatening their young.
    BTW....I'd have to agree,lucky you were close by,I have no doubt an alligator of that size (looked like a 6 footer ..female probably since it doesnt show the typical slight swelling of the neck area most adult males have) would have tried to take a small child near the waters edge. I've seen a 10 foot alligator take a full grown COW (800 lbs) once. I hope you called your local wildlife control /police department to report this. An alligator that will get that close to humans is a distinct menace and needs to be relocated or euthanized immediately.

      It was about to pounce on her. I just walked up saw turned my camera on and grunted.
