13.Songs Written by His Majesty the King

To this day many Thais remember the touching performance of the song written by His Majesty the King titled “Porn Pi Mai” or “New Year Blessings” on New Year’s eve of 2494. Yet few realize that this was not the first song that he has written for the people of Thailand.

His Majesty is a master of a variety of musical instruments. Since his youth he has written his own songs whenever time was available. The first song written by His Majesty was in the blues genre entitled ‘Saeng Tian’ or ‘Candle Light’. It was written in 2489.

Since then His Majesty has written many more songs which he has graciously permitted Kru Ua Suntornsanan to perform be performed by his Suntaraporn orchestra.

The Vienna Institute of Music and Art presented His Majesty the King with an honorary membership on his official visit to Austria in 2507. His Majesty is the first musician from the continent of Asian to be accorded this unique honor. This is a confirmation of his remarkable abilities in the field of music from Europe’s fountain head of classical music re-substantiating the title “the Great Artist” given to His Majesty by his subjects.
