This man (and it IS a man) has a name: Siggi = a short form of the german name 'Siegfried'.
I'm shure he died within two minutes time. He didn't swallow the microphone - it stuck in his throat. There it blocked the trachea - he couldn't breathe any longer. He tried to pull air, but the microphone, blood and perhaps teath blocked him.
Two minutes without oxygene - and a human being dies.
I think, a death like his death isn't really funny.

I think the video shows a real accident (somebody pushes the mic´s stick) to someone who is making a living somehow. Looking the desperate reaction might be funny for those who, when changing roles, become heroes and victims and try to sell their story for a drama movie...Rambo, Born on July 4th, Looking for private Ryan, Apolo 13, etc. etc.
