Seems like a scene from Top Gun. I guess it's a navy pilot playing with his friends.
Im a current hornet pilot in the navy. the tomcat is doing about 800 mph, the only time you get the condensation cloud around the jet (even happends below the speed of sound) is when the dew point is high enough in the air (moisture in the air) for the plane to separate it and S**k the vapor to the fuselage. he is dropping flares as he is flying by which distract INF SAM's (infrared Surface to Air Missiles), flares will not make the missile follow it, just gives you enough time to turn and make the missile lose your exuast trace. the water effect is from the wake turbulance as stated above. this is what a sonic boom sounds like.....
By Navy Pilot 1145425421 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf you were a real pilot in the navy, you would have described yourself as a Navy aviator, not as a pilot..
By dekernion 1156783391 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveActually, its a Naval Aviator. I also said "I'm a current Hornet pilot in the navy" please read before commenting. thanks you.
By Navy Pilot 1156887197 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf you're a Navy pilot we're in big trouble

By Navy Pilot 1156007150 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSomeone at work has a screen save of a low flying (20 ft) F-14 spraying water up almost to the wings. Think that is photo shop? Or real? It looks real, and I know it will cause a disturbance that low and fast, but looks like it would cause the plane to malfunction. Answer if ya can. Later
By LiLHeffe 1150511984 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt all depends. if the jet is flying level, it will usually make a wake in the water as if a boat just want by. but if the jet was that low, and the pilot yanked back on the stick, the exaust will point into the water and the thrust would through the water in every direction causing it to rise rather high. hope that helps. if you can give me a link the the picture if its online...
By Navy Pilot 1150525363 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe water like this. Seems if he is not even aproching the sound barrier .. there must be some other force in play here. ... Like the deflectors down . throwing the exshaults heat and trust toward the water.
By drfox 1148363722 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeand they seem to be of different sizes. If it is at dew point the water condessing may be breaking off from the air speed where it is forming. Something else is the cracking and the lines in the video as it pass's port side. ... is this visable white noise that the equipment is picking up .. Or radar..from the nose or aft or both. .. that interfears with the taping ? This would not be present on celephaine film. correct ?
By drfox 1148363296 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIts F-16 play and this noise is sound barrier broking it means take over speed than on "mach" :P
By LGD 1147693055 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removesorry, but this is NOT an F-16 come on it doesn't even look like one. Its an F-14 Tomcat. PLUS F-16s are Air Force, not Navy, and NEVER confuse the two ever
By soccerboy77 1169875077 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhere the hell do you see the f-16
By dreetje 1158872172 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is not a f-16!!!

By pafka 1143893505 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedeeeeeeeecent! of course i went to school, and, as i am a nerd, i know about aircraft such as the F-14 (NATO codenamed 'tomcat') and also know, as stated below, that nothing like chaff or 'flares' are dropped to cause such effects on the water. had the aircraft been breaking the sound barrier however, at that LOW altitude, the aircraft would have great difficulty doing so in the first place and it would cause an effect on the 2 naval vessels surrounding such ILEGAL fly by. at that altitude also, a supersonic aircraft acheives a cloud of condensation as the air is compressed sufficiently to alter its ability to suspend mositure in collected/ gaseous form. (any of this could easily be wrong. if you see flaws in my analysis, do comment or send an E-mail.) being 16 ROCKS
By birdlover 1140408841 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCorrect in that the plane is subsonic. You can determine the speed by the angle between the nose and the shock wave on the water: the height one can work out by how many multiples of the plane it is between the water and the plane. For supersonic flight, the shock wave lags the nose by the same distance as the plane is above the water. This plane is only doing about 350mph. However, it does show a lot of contempt for the environment, with no regard to the marine creatures that are distrubed by prats flying like this.
By Well travelled 1144718085 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTHAT must be FUN!!???
By springwater 1139426799 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveFor the record, that loud gunshot sound is from the plane breaking the sound barrier. That's why you don't hear it until it passes; it's flying faster than the sound it makes. The white noise that might be attributed to the approach of the plane is most likely due to the fact that they're standing on a moving ship in the middle of the ocean...probably a bit windy, eh?
Also, he is not dropping flares, chaff or anything else. The white water is the result of wake turbulence. Wake turbulence is the term for the air that is pushed down by the wings when generating lift. Think of a boat going through water and the wake that creates. Same thing, only with air. As the plane passes between the two ships, you will notice that there is an arc at the front of the white water which corresponds with the leading edge of the wings.
Did any of you go to school?
been to skool. 3x.

By Cutter 1143595261 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYes, for those of you that caught the flares dropped a few feet off the deck, very sweet. That pass was subsonic though, so no sonic boom, but he was moving out just the same. I would estimate +500 knots. I wish they showed the part where he pulls it straight back, and disappears into the clouds. Great vid.

By r1ccardo 1138491590 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe pilot is not dropping anything he fly's low yes but he breaks the wall of sound thats we it maks a sonicboom and the water reacts on it.. i have seen this clip before.. on a web site but font remember what the names was...
i think he was droping flars
By Q80man 1138532573 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhat the guy let out of the plane is called chaff which confuses heat seeking missiles
no my friend he was dropping flars chaff confuses radar missiles :)
it looks like he drops things into the water as its coming across.... anyoen notice that??? let me know wat u think....
