Only ~60,000 orangutans left in the wild
Firstly, everyone please educate themselves about the situation - the forests of Borneo and Sumatra, which are the orangutans' habitat, are being destroyed to make room for palm oil plantations (palm oil is used in some household products e.g. foods, shampoos etc, but you can avoid buying them and lobby companies to stop using palm oil in their products!).

Secondly, this rare and amazing species is one of our closest relatives, evolutionarily speaking, is highly intelligent, and should be allowed to live in what is left of their natural habitat, not used for our enjoyment - that is not what animals are for.

  But think of it this way. Maybe that orangutangue would be dead, maybe they took it away froma place that was going to be destroyed. Fair enough they are not their for our enjoyment, but you tell me that Harry doesn't like it, if you can I suggest you get a pair of glasses and rewatch the video. If you are keeping wildlife as pets fair enough, that is not being kept as a pet, and they are looked after very well in most cases. Please, get YOUR facts straight.

  this isnt PEP testing or maternal deprivation. this OWM was not given repetitive shock treatment for hours on end to teach him to make a very natural noise into a microphone. If you are going to complain make sure you at least complain about the correct things. this is very nearly a pet. yes its young, yes it will most likely grow out of it but orangutan are very smart and can be taught with little effort. get over it, bitch about chemicals in rabbits eyes or how purdue raises chickens or even the psych experiments on learned helplessness. this is not that.
