By Phoebe_26 1160242684 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAll comic book movies are campy, of course it's campy, it's a comic book movie. The X-men series was awesome, yet campy, in a cool way. I think it looks cool. Ya gotta put on your eye candy glasses for movies like these and just go with the flow.
By RipUaNew1 1160175726 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy is it that *every* time I've seen comments about a Ghost Rider trailer, people say it looks "campy" or "bad" or whatever?
Everyone seems so eager to just write it off as crap and be done with it.
They did that with the Hulk movie, and it bombed because of it, even though it was a decent reimagining of Big Green.
C'mon, people, give the movie a chance *before* you write it off.
It may truly be crapworthy, but it might not.
I must already be right.
I Kid... I can see what you are saying but I have to give you my two cents. I am plenty old enough to feel the reason you get to see the films of comic heros is because of ME.
Please understand that I don't mean me by myself. But a collective ME. Guys that are my age that bought these comic books. Especially Marvel.
It was ME that first read the Xmen and Dare Devil. It was not ME that brought about Spider Man or Hulk and Ghost Rider. But it was a resounding ME that firmed up their mythos. ME may not have created these heros. But ME ensured they would live long enough off for you to enjoy.
ME sat at the edge of the Universe and watched it unfold. ME bought the Marvel Universe and read on like a true believer. Then they make the Movies. It Hurts finding myself all grown up seeing the Universe that I liked as a kid, wrong. Peter didn't shoot web from his wrist like that. He worked hard and used his brain to come up with Web shooters. Many an evening was spent trying to figure out where could you put the trigger and still use your hands for climbing and fighting and such.
So much time devoted to this Universe before I hit my teen years. I know that the movies are made for a new generation and the characters evolved beyond what I read. Still ME miss the old guard. ME peered into a Unvierse where Dared Devil was a man without Fear. ME feared for Luke's safety when I heard Darths Voice. Then I grew up and watched Dare Devil some kind of shadow of himself. What crap bondage gear is he wearing. Ben screams not a guy that can kick ass. Forgive me, but looks like a punk ass, not a hero. I admit that I had always wanted to know how did the Father of ME hero turn to the Darkside. Well thanks Lucas for giving ME Three more movies that could have beem reduced to 30 minutes. Because ME was much more interested in him Kicking Ass for the Empire. Instead Lucas You turned him into a P***y I HATE YOU LUCAS... sorry.
Sorry ccwfalcon if that's your real name. The Short answer is that these worlds are so familiar too ME that the trailer is sometimes more than enough. More than enough to know that all ain't right in that world. If you don't believe me....
well You may not. See I disagree with you about the Hulk. I don't even know what it was that turned me off about that Movie. But it was a big green pile of movie that other's didn't want to pay to see either.
Hopefully Stan will hear this Collective Whine from ME. Hopefully Lucas will restore order to the Universe that I paid for.
Oh one more thing to address your last request. It's hard to be fair. My list of grievances is much longer than we have space for. Point being they have seemed to get it wrong so many times before. Sometimes they get it so wrong that it makes ME think they are doing it to be mean. Seriously do you remember the Punisher. WTFO!
forum not a whole &%$#ing book
By Postrider 1160745605 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI understand what u are saying but the comic book universe is totally different from the movie universe. One movie or a whole series of movies cannot contain all the details of the gazillions of issues of comics and what is shown in the movie depends on the directors view of the comic. so it cant satisfy everyone. I for one understand why made spiderman shoots webs from his wrists and not from an invention. That would have made the movie too far fetched.
By VenomC 1170148713 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell I do and I don't. I am an X-Men fan, have been since I was 7 or so. Loved Wolverine with a passion. However, I have been able to look past some of the mythos to really enjoy and celebrate how popular it is now. I mean to see them all on screen and enjoy them again, even the little comments etc, that lead back to the original. It's tough though to get how many years into a couple of movies, but I have to say thank you for waiting until the effects were decent!!! When they could climb walls without the strings and fly without looking like they were latched on to something, phase through walls without looking like they were a transparent ghost. Really we've come a long way!! And I'm so happy to see it revived!!
By Ravencat 1160804469 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI disagree with your opinions, but I respect your reasoning.
Well... except maybe that Star Wars bash... Episodes II and III were plenty worth the ride, I thought.
Oh, and I happen to quite like the Punisher movie.
Not the '80s version, mind you.
The newer one with Tom Jane is one of my favorites.
Granted, it does distance from the comic book, but it's a cool action flick in and ove itself.
Sic vis pacem para bellum.
But anywayz...
These movies are, admittedly, usually reinventings of the Marvel universe.
Partially because younger viewers such as myself aren't fully versed in the mythos.
We haven't been reading X-men for 40 years.
We have a general idea of what all's going on, but we don't have time in a 2-hour movie to delve into the complex backstories of each and every character.
And you must admit, comic book universes get a little too complicated, especially with all the retcons.
Yes, Hollywood dumbs down comics films. Hollywood also dumbs down history flicks (*cough pocahontas cough* *cough anewworld cough* *cough windtalkers cough*).
But take a comic book movie for what it is -- a couple hourse of explosions and entertainment -- and it's not so bad. Movies, by their very nature, require a certain suspension of disbelief.
If you're looking for retcons, complicated pantheons, and everything else that confuses the heck out of new comic readers, play X-Men Legends or Ultimate Alliance.
At least the medium of video games allows for time to explain the mythos.
My point is: Take Hollywood versions of comic book heroes on their own merits, not on expectations of faithful depiction. They can't get real history right, so they certainly can't be expected to get Marvel history right.
I was a big fan of the Ghost Rider comics when I was a kid..they only made like 79 of them or something.
This movie looks horribly campy, though, and not in a good way.
hunter weapon imo
