If you listened to the video the announcer stated that she had said that she snorted morphine, and didn't rember what she had done...

er forgive me if I'm ignorant but I'm pretty sure morphine s supposed to be injected but she snorted it, wouldn't that change its effects?

My ingesting the substance through the mucus membranes in your nasal passage it get's the "drug" to your brain much faster. It doesn't give it a different effect, it gives it a quicker and more pronounced effect.

BTW, snorting opiates is a great way to DIE really fast. The dosage to get the same effect as injecting it is MUCH smaller if you plan to inhale it. THose that don't know this take the same amount as they would when injecting it and OD quite fast.

The injected high is a much better high for opiates, but people snort them because they're pussies and afraid of needles.......well that and if you inject an air bubble into your arm you die...period, no coming back from that one. No rush to the hospital. Air bubble in blood supply = painful quick death.

I dont know where you got your info from capt., But you couldn't be more mistaken, In fact the dosage that is required when you snort an opiate is much more than if it were intravenously administered. In fact less is required when it is "shot up" because it is introduced directly into the blood stream. the effects of shooting the substance up will be faster felt but not last as long, whereas snorting the same substance will produce the same effect except it will come slower and last longer, proportion to the amount taken. Overall shooting it up gets you a more intense "high" and faster

1. Effects from snorting (although not from inhaling of a vapor) are always come LATER than effects from injection. This is because absorbtion through the epithelial membranes, into capillary beds, and finally into general circulation which distributes the substance to the brain is always slower than direct injection into a vein, which skips two steps.

2. It is highly unlikely that the amount of air injected with a drug (at most some small fraction of a milliter) would cause a fatal air embolism or even brain damage. This is because normal intravenous (rather than arterial) injection would allow the air bubble containing blood to pass through the lung where the embolism would be diffused out through capillaries into aveoli and exhaled. Inter-aterial injections might hypothetically cause a problem but this would only be if the air bubble lodged in a coronary artery or the brain. This air bubble death thing is purely an urban legend. In fact it is typical for newly installed intravenous cathers to have small air bubble in them.

3. Morphine would cause agressive behavior only insofar as it disinhibits a normally agressive person. Same with alcohol. These drugs do not cause violence.

4. It usually takes a LARGER "snorted" dose to equal a given I.V. dose

The one thing that you got right is that opiate (or opioid) overdose can be fatal: it stops your beathing. In most cases irreversable brain damage is done by 4 or 5 minutes of apnea (not breathing).
