Aircraft of the future...Amazing!!!
This is the F35b, which will be used by the U.S. Marine Core as well as the Royal Navy. The F35 descended from the x-35 or JSF. Its is made by Lockheed Martin, an American company. It is funded primarily by the US and UK. The total cost funded by the US was US $40billion and slighty over US 2$Billion at 10% total cost was the UK. The are three types of the F35, The F35A, the smallest of the three, used by the USAF, The F35B, the one in the vieo, used by the USMC and the Royal Navy. The F35C used by the USN to replace the F/A 18 Hornet. This is a multi-purpose JSF. It utilizes stealth technology to perform close air support, tactical boming, and air to air combat. Elements of the F35 are based of the design of the F22. Its a single seat, single engine military strike fighter. It uses directed-energy weapons. Some concepts, including solid state lasers and high-power microwave beams, may be nearing operational status.

By CSUSBOUNCE 1172306443 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei, myself, am i military brat. and i think that the planes we have now are fine, though i somewhat agree with u. but u have 2 remember dat if we didnt have this crap and others, we'd be a totally different country, where ppl in lousiana still suffer, more poop people, etc. although i still am po'd about how CANADA helped the hurricane katrina survivors b4 we could. i mean, come on. we didnt get there till like, 4 days after da hurricane. our president was too occupied with crap to help OUR fellow americans! god, i cant wait till 2008...
By figure_sk8tr 1164312468 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI pose a question or a conundrum! Is it singularly the President's fault, one man not a dictator, or is it democracy? Remember our government is a democracy of equal but seperate powers. We also as citezens of this country have the right to vote for elected officials, and have the right to voice our opinions at bill hearings. It is when we decide to act, rather then talk, does something happen. Ask yourself what have you done? Our country is complacent, and would rather argue about world disaster then help. I grow tired of uneducated opinions that spread ignorance. Forget what the media says experience it first hand, and after many years of research then you can say otherwise.

By electrosoccertux 1163610953 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe F22's are not going any where. this was an idea, idea being the key word for the replacement of the harries. well not any time soon. that is why we went with the F22's instead! you dip s**ts
By killer of the time 1166589128 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe F-22's are already in use by the United States Air Force. The F-35's have already been budgeted in by all branches of he United States military, and have been purchased by several governements within the U.N. The F-35 Lightning II is not a eplacement for the harrier. It has similiar vertical take off abilities like the harrier. The only brach that has selected this as a feature is the U.S.M.C. All other branches have gone with differnet versions of the x-35.
By rschafer 1166631502 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf this is what we released to the public, then just imagine what we have in the way of secret "black projects". Remember, how surprised we were at the f-117, tacit blue, the blackbird, the B-2. We know more or less about aurora, but they probably have things we cant even begin to imagine.
By laxman2001 1161667180 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt's the JSF x-35 from the Lockheed Martin (american company).. They also showed another experimental aircraft from Boeing that lost the competition for a contract with the government against the x-35. It's one of the newest jets right now, designed for aircraft carriers.
By razrfane 1160334751 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveLockheed is the main contractor but it's not the only one. Lockheed itself hired outside help (as in non-US firms from other NATO countries) from the very beginning of the early stages of design of the aicraft, as this was a DoD requirement. We cannot afford to build and operate this aircraft by ourselves and a clever way to make sure that allied countries will use --and thus buy-- this plane is to have their goverments inject money into the project.
Also from a military point of view, it always pays off to have allies who are technologically at par with us. Makes it easier to mount joint ops.
Good comment. 1 Inisghtful

But what makes this craft different from the Harrier?
The F/A-35 Lightning II/ Joint Strike Fighter is a stealth aircraft (radar cannot detect it), whereas the Harrier is as vulnerable to radar as most aircraft. There have been four stealth aircraft created. They are (in order of creation):
*F-117A Nighthawk
*B-2 Spirit
*F/A-22 Raptor
*F/A-35 Lightning II/ Joint Strike Fighter

The F-22's avionics and radar suite are far more advanced than the SU-37. Besides, Russian doctrine still employs vectoring and targeting orders from the ground. No "free thinking" from pilots yet.

By chrisatchrisdotchris 1160471992 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe stubby aircraft was a prototype Boeing entered in a competiton. It is not being built, the last I heard. Lockheed (the company that built the F-117) won it with the "cooler" looking aircraft.
This jet is not 100% american built. True. Part of the specifications was that it be cheap (compared to the Raptor). The best way to do that was to split up the manufacturing locations and let our allies bear some of the cost of building the factories. NOVA did a 2 hour doc on it. I bought the DVD. It's worth the 30 or so bux.
That idiotically grinning oversized intake in the front makes it look like a bad case of senile dementia.
By Guynextfloor 1160342099 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeso...yep you are right and just to let everybody know this is going to be even better than f/a22
cuz it's 20 times cheaper and inside the cockpit
is alot better
I'm get it excited about that
By albn 1160329519 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe JSF is in production now, and wont be in service until 2008. So it is new.
There is 3 separate versions of this jet. Each jet can be customized to fit what ever features the ordering nation wants.
And 7 nations have covered the production costs.....this jet is NOT American.
The F/A-35 Lightning II/ JSF was built by Lockheed-Martin in the United States of America. However, other countries DID have a part in its creation, including the UK and Australia.
By Jets rok! 1177332714 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis isn't the future anymore, it has become the F-35 Lightning a.k.a. Joint Strike Fighter.
By Kobus_NL 1160307183 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeok why would a new plane have small wheels ? isnt that unsafe
By 85858 1160269085 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removevertical landings which it can do, besides jets don't have big wheels, cargo, and bombers do due to the weight of the aircraft.
By Meak13 1160315319 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWeight is obviously a factor but gear size on aircaft is also affected by what type of terrain they operate from. If they have to roll on rough surfaces such as gravel or ice, even relatively small planes will require large wheels, or mutiple sets of smaller ones. But an aircraft whose pilot can choose to land vertically on anything but the smoothest of runways can make do with very small wheels.

Why the f*ck would you want to live on Mars?
How the f*ck is an X35 jet gonna get us there? That's NASA's job, not the USAF!
What the f*ck is wrong with Earth?
To start off, this new plane is better than any other is it not, i mean with those you don't need long landing strips, duh, an advance in technology. Plus, this is just an example of what were accomplishing. And mars, well we have to expand our presence in the solar system, if we advance enough, we will go to Mars and hopefully be able to live there, well, scientists anyway, at first, but in the distant future, we plan to teraform Mars and some of the moons of Jupiter, i then we will have new planets to explore and live on, and have a less populated Earth. Imagine Living on Mars after it has been teraformed, a new planet, unpoluted nor used up. Although to make te atmosphere of Mars warmer and adaptale in temperature, we will have to send machines that will litraly polute the planet to cause a bit of global warming and warm up the planet for good living conditions. The reason why we will "Have" to live there some day is because the Sun gets ever so bigger, and in a few thousand years, the Sun is going to get expand and move what scientists call "The Safe Zone" away from earth, in other words, the earth will burn us up, and we will be forced to live else were, but that day won't come for at lease maybe a million years or so, but we still wanna go to Mars and explore a new world and hopefully live there.
