Talking Parrot

As an animal behaviour researcher working at UCLA I conducted some research into this particular parrot and his vocalisations.

I conversed at length with this African Grey Parrot , specific name Psittacus erithacus, and in fact found the bird to be extremely boring, and unable to make interesting comment on much other than his diet and sleeping patterns.

Dolphins, however, are quite a different story, and also make surprisingly good chess players, if trained properly.

I will judge someone as "Crazy" if he or she is to use the word "Boring" to this bird. Only a crazy person will felt it boring since the person himself or herself will actually do the craziest thing. That is acceptible to comment the bird as boring then. I myself after seeing many videos showing African Greys talking ability and intelligence, I am already planning to get a pair. The show has time constraint and believe me, the bird can do much better. An African Grey can have a vocabulary of easily more than a thousand.

I have a grey (3 year old male) who speaks about 50 words and sentences in addition to imitating any sounds that he gets to hear. But he doesn't respond to commands. How did you train him to respond on the show? By the way, the "Superstar" was simply fabulous!

I have a friend who also has a grey parrot, and it also likes to talk (although not to an audience or in answer to questions). I think it would make a good contribution to animal shows. Here are some of it's favourite phrases:

"Jon/Marc, don't slam the door!" (when either Jon or Marc slam the door)

"Bev, get the phone!" (when the phone is ringing - it's cage is right next to it so it gets annoyed)

and my favourite:

"Brrr brrr. Brrr brrr." (imitating the phone, and then sniggering and pointing when some one picks it up)

Anyone else know of a cool/amazing talking parrot?

The parrot is an extremely well trained animal i'm sure, but it would be better if it would answer the questions first time round, rather than having to have a second attempt.

I'm not disputing that this is one of the funniest and coolest animal video i've ever seen (and the look on the judges faces helped), but i bet there is a parrot out there that could do better, or maybe Einstien could do with a little more training.

Thats by far the funniest clip I have seen here so far. and what 1 person has said is true. African Grey Parrots are some of the most intelligent birs on the planet and they mimic what they hear. THere is a bird in Ausralia call the Lyra bird or something who use noises they hear as part of the courtship routine. One ahs immitated a high speed camera and a chain saw and uses it as part of its act to attract females.

To those of you who have had expierence with The African grey you know just how Smart they truly can be. I have a Congo Grey that is also very Smart he is 20 I was fortunate to get him after knowing hum for many years prior. He has a very extensive vocabulary as well and is a joy to have around!

ive seen this on different sites numerous times, i have a timneh african grey parrot myself and believe me, this is real, my parrot does similiar sounds and voices!

I showed that video to my family and i think it is the most smartest bird i have ever saw. I can't believe a bird can be that smart. I have a bir but its no where near that smart (it can't even fly). =P

i got a porrot and it is imported from africa it is 1 year old.he was in the wild i think at first she was sceard very much but in 2 days i notice that he was getting used to me and i tryed to thuoch her and he bite me but he didnt heart me from there he started to learn and now he is 2 months from when i bouth it and she is learnig very fast she have already let me to thouch her head and neck and she can make sakehands also now she is saying hello i thing that this parrot wll be super as the one i saw in this video and the parrot is a bit gelous as well she dont like my girlfriend as well but every body can touch her but my girlfriend some times dhe bite her hahah i thing the parrot realy love me any way keep it up i will look foward in a few months to beat your parrot .well we will see.... bye bye

I have a Congo grey, B&G, Blue front amazon. And they all talk and they talk to eachother. If my grey is thirsty he says water. He sings a ton of childrens tunes. Makes all the noises Einstein does. They pick up things quickly. And some things you dont want them to pick up. :) the other day I was whistling a christmas tune and he said Merry christmas(smart enough to know a song).
they have the intelligence and emotional sence of an 8 year old child. My bird is about 15 years old. And still asks for his previous owner to this day. My blue front calls the dog l to come here then when she sees him yells at him to get out! One thing about them is it is like having a small child around so you cant just lock them in a cage and leave them there..

My family has a bird of this species, the African Grey. We got him when I was 10, 18 years ago, and his vocabulary now is amazing. He calls my parents' dog, makes him do tricks, gets on the bottom of the cage and taunts him by jumping back and forth while calling the dog's name; it's hilarious. African Greys have some of the best vocal ability in terms of mimicry of all birds. By the time ours was 4 years old, he could mimic the telephone, and BOTH ends of the conversation, so well that the only way to tell if the phone was ringing for real was if we heard more than one of them. The doorbell was impossible to tell apart if you were in the same room with the guy. Even though I haven't lived at that house for 10 years, he still knows me well when I go visit and remembers all our games. Great video, these birds, along with cockatoos, macaws and others, really do have intelligent and amazing personalities. Thanks for the laughs Pommie Mick!

I have a 4 year old AGT name is Freddy. He is extremely smart. He has a large vocabulary. He makes sounds such as pop or beer pouring into a glass, he barks, he makes lazer sounds, meows, laughs like a human male as well as a female, mimics other birds, sirens, and dances and makes the sound of snapping fingers. He sings Jingle Bells and lots of other songs. He is great!!!

Realy funny bird

I saw this video maybe 2 months after we got our African Grey. His name is Tobias and his 1 year birthday will be this Thursdsay. He is already talking up a storm and has picked up some of Einstein's famous words. I think it is possible to teach these birds just about anything.

My African Grey parrot talks a lot, in sentences as well but mostly when he wants to. I have trained him since we got him at 4 months old to say Good Morning to be uncovered and fed, and he says Good Night himself when he wants to be covered for the night. This parrot was wonderfully trained to go on continuously like that.

George is a talker they say anything and everything such as my bird says good morning mama, daddy going to work, i love you mama, she says im a dog and then make the barking sounds, she is only 1.6 years old but she is a great pet and when you have company she is the life of the party.

i have a african gray i just got her two weeks ago i cant wait for her to talk i think its a female but im not really sure how can you tell? i think she is about a year old
