http://zennie2005.blogspot.com - For the first time, according to Nielsen, CNN came in third place in cable news program ratings behind Fox and MSNBC. Some say the reason is Fox is conservative; it's their focus on women anchors with short skirts. Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • Understanding The Audience

OK, you are correct that there's a lot of image content on the web showing the women of Fox News. One simple reason for that is because those ladies are gorgeous. Also true is sex sells, absolutely. So, does that validate your overall point? Let's assume that Fox News is dominating the ratings because they show "leg".

Prime Time ratings on Fox News are DOUBLE that of THEIR OWN daytime viewership. No offense to Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, but who wants to see their legs? My point is simply this: The other networks have much lower ratings because they spend less time trying to understand their audience, and more time trying to persuade them.

As an example, this same paradigm lead General Motors to their lowest sales of all time, and to their eventual bankruptcy. Less time was spent listening to what the market was looking for, and more time explaining why the market was wrong to not demand their products. There are many fine people at GM, but their corporate leadership created that top-down message.

With the media, it’s not just TV. Print media like The New York Times, once upon a time, was universally regarded as the national newspaper of record. Today, it is considered by many as a dubious news source. We have witnessed their largest decline in its century-old history, and its legacy in question. What took years to build was damaged by those trying to invent the news to fit in their world view.

The reason I watch Fox News is because, like many others out there, I simply want the news compiled in a FAIR way, not 4 liberals ganging up on 1 who disagrees with them, or doctored memos, or contemptuous imagery of conservatives falsely compared to liberals, and etc. There’s enough eye candy on the web that one doesn’t NEED Fox News for that.

Once upon a time, I could not start my day without the Today show on NBC. Then, over a decade of it’s obvious far-left message finally got the best of me. I think Campbell Brown was the best looking anchor on the NBC network, but I never followed her to CNN because, well, she went to CNN.

If cable news networks such as CNN and MSNBC replaced their Democratic Party mouthpiece anchors with unattractive, yet personable professionals, AND could just REPORT THE NEWS instead of trying to SHAPE THE NEWS, their viewership just might shift upwards. Likely to happen? No, because it appears that the top does not understand what their viewers are looking for.

From a journalistic perspective, the other news networks are just on an uneven playing field with Fox News. Once the reporting issues are resolved, in my view, the "leg" argument could maybe THEN hold water and be measured as a reason.

We are all certainly entitled to see the world in any manner we choose. The "leg" observation is purely anecdotal, belittles the news watching audience, and demonstrates an lack of understanding of who the viewers of Fox News are.
