  • TLC, Super Structure

TLC once dedicated a 1 hour documentary on it, very impressive. As usual russian kept everything simple, it is actualy an oversize Antonov-124 (NATO code name CONDORE). It weight 640 tons fully loaded (the plane , fuel and cargo), it has a maximum cargo capability of up to 250 tons, internaly OR externaly. 32 wheels burn rubber every time this giant lands, it is so big that it would bearly skweez between the two goals on a football feild. It is 40 foot longer than a Boieng 747, and it could swallow the entire fuselage of a Boieng 737. This aircraft requires a lake of fuel, fully loaded, you would have anough fuel to gas up 6000 mid-size care. It guzzel fuel at the staguering rate of 18 tons an hour. Largeness reign supreme in Russia I tell you...

with all those engines and wheels, it reminds me of clips I've seen of Howard Hugh's (sp?) Spruce Goose.

    • LOTS ANS LOTS OF WHEELS

I think they said that there are 12 sets of 4 wheels per set - lets see 4 times 2 is 8 and 1 times 4 is 4 . that's 48 plus I think there are 2 sets of 4 in the front nose gear . So 48 plus 8 equas 56 total wheels . I call that LOT and LOTs of wheeles ... But that a great question ...

The biggest muthafukken cargo aircraft I have ever seen. I saw one back in 1988 in the Australian Bicentennial Airshow. IMPRESSIVE!!!

    • It's incredible how people generalise th...

Just because this aircraft is made in the Soviet doesn't mean it's schonky. It actually has better record than DC-10 which at one stage had their engines (literally) falling off the sky and caused crashes...

It's recorded as the largest aircraft ever built. It can carry space shuttle in its back. It kills Airbus's largest transporter, the Beluga. Antonov has more than the capacity and payload.

Why don't you guys google them out, or better just wikipedia them. As I said, I've seen it in real life and walked in its cargo bay. Again, FARKEN IMPRESSIVE!!!

Insterestingly enough nobody has corrected the name yet (after all those technical specifications) - it is Mriya, meaning Fog in Ukrainian

  • not the biggest

that one isnt the biggest, the super guppy is, it is also really distinctive it looks like it has a massive brain when you look at it head on, it is large enough to be able to fit an like half of a 747 fuselage (intact) in side.

this is so that when they get the fuselage to the destination all they have to do is join the two peices and add the wings

    • Wikepedia says different

The An-225 Mriya (Антонов Ан-225 Мрія, NATO reporting name: Cossack) is a strategic airlift transport aircraft which was built by Antonov, and is the world's largest powered aircraft. The design, built to transport the Buran orbiter, was an enlargement of the successful An-124 Ruslan. Mriya (Мрія) means "dream" (inspiration) in Ukrainian.

With a maximum gross weight of 640,000 kg (1,411,000 lb), the An-225 is the world's heaviest aircraft. Although its wingspan is less than that of the Hughes H-4 Hercules (known to most as the "Spruce Goose"), the latter never went beyond a single short low-altitude test flight, making the An-225 the largest aircraft in the world to take off more than once.[1] The An-225 is also larger than the Airbus A380, and like the An-124 is larger than the C-5 Galaxy, the nearest equivalent heavy airlifter.

In November 2004, FAI placed the An-225 in the Guinness Book of Records for its 240 records.
