By GkampaSA 1169660189 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is base on true history. the general called Leonidas and the 300 soldiers stayed to fight 100.000 persians. the greeks were betrayed by someone called efialtis which means nightmare. and trapped in to a channel find a heroic death.
By the wonderer 1169074841 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThey were perfect as soldiers, great in battle, but too prood to join the other greeks in most of their wars against the persians. Also they sometimes helped them to weaken the other greek armies, but when the persians were getting too strong they helped the other greeks again. In the case of thermopiles if the spartans wanted to win they would had simply send more soldiers

By i like guns 1165790088 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI VE BEEN READING YOUR comments AND I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED... YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANCIENT GREECE... You Talk about mayans, aztecs and other tribes... which were great civilizations but didn't have anything to do with "modern" as you said in a comment AND WORST THEY DIDN'T AFFECT ANY OTHER CIVILIZATION ON THE PLANET... THEY WERE JUST "CLOSED COMMUNITIES"...
GREECE ON THE OTHER HAND... had the first organized government ACTIONS done in the history of this world... AND NEEDLESS TO SAY, GREEK PEOPLE WERE THE FIRST TO AFFECT EVERY COUNTRY AND CIVILIZATION THAT EXISTED THEN...
Have you ever heard what AUGUST (emperor of ROME) said 3 years after capturing most of greece's lands? ....HE SAID: "IT IS NOT US WHO CONQUERED GREECE... IT IS GREECE WHO CONQUERED US" meaning that greek had shown them their way of life and romans have adopted it... THIS MEANS THAT ROME DID NOT EXIST ANY MORE... IT HAD BECOME **GREECE**
Thanks for reading... I LOVE GREECE... VERY MUCH...
you dont know S**t about mayans so grab a book and read cause they did more than you can imagin
By HeLlMuT 1167287214 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut since they like disappeared, and had no contact with the rest of the world and their gold got jacked by the spaniards, they contributed very little to the world's development, the only effect of the mayans that echo nowadays is probably giving hispanics a slightly darker tone of skin. lol
By Dr Naf 1173565976 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeand u are right, greece affected a lot of countries. wat the hell r u trying to prove by the way
By Great ME 1165979983 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveFirst of all I'm not sure if I got the name of the battle site correct, aside from that heres how it goes .
The graphic novel is based off the historical account of the battle of Thermapolyea. I'm not going to bore you with the details of the battle, because I'm sure some of you are smart enough how to use the internet to find out this history of the battle itself.
The cinematics , and stylization of this movie look immense. Remember Frank Miller is one of the greatest graphic artists of our time as well as an excellent story and character writer , and if you say he isn't look at Batman , Sin City , or any other of his graphic novels. Remember this is the man who essentialy made the best and darkest D.C. characters. I don't know wether or not Frank Miller had any input into this project or not ( let's pray that he did) look how Sin City turned out.
Regressing from my point this movie looks awesome. They used essentially very little known talent who's main job is to reflect the Spartan style of Life, if you were weak the Spartans did you the favor of saving you wasted years by going ahead nad leaving you to die. These aren't going to be loveable people and jolly characters, this film is about blood and guts and war and pride.
From the acting , which looks prewtty good, the costume design (which looks amazing), the script ( hopefully they won't stray too far from the Frank Miller script ), and the Directing (Zack Snyder (Dawn of THe Dead Remake)) this movie looks like it could easily be one the most stylized brutal cinematic films to come out in a very long time.
Cheers to Snyder I hope this does well so he can move onto the one project I really want to see him helm, The Watchmen.
Just wondring why the movie called 300
By Leon5k 1164722327 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove300 because there are 300 soldiers.
By Ohaooa123 1164743498 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThose days the power of heard and power of body count, they fight with swords and arows and only the strongers they survive.
And anchent Greece was the real wariors with iron balls
were Roman.
They used a better fighting technique, inspired by the greek battle formation involving troop coordination but ameliorated it. They used three ranges of men, seasoned, freshers and veterans. The seasoned were in front, at a signal when the battle needed fresh energy the fresher row came in front, veterans were used to turn the tide. This technique allowed recruits to learn from veterans.
Also Roman soldiers were perfect material for conquest, able to walk hundreds of miles in record time, cater for their food line, they were also skilled craftsmen and built bridges, boats, catapults when and where required, and they fought in foreign climates snow and sand alike.
thats really true + the didnt use arrows cause they believed it is not a weapon suited for courageous ppl. The use of arrows started much later after the hellenistic years(after Alexander)

By The Stud 1164084450 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhat about Sparta itself? Spartan citizens, (citizen originally meant "One who could defend their Polis) were pure Spartan males, all of whom were required to serve in the army. Any male or female born of a Spartan citizen were also considered citizens. Spartan males served in the Army from the time they were 18 until they were 60 years old. They were disowned if they could not serve physically. All members of the Army lived in Barracks, and relations between them and their wives were even kept secret. It was dishonorable to be seen entering your wife's chambers. Men and women both had daily rigorous training excersices, because it was believed that if two fit people got together, their offspring would be more likely to be better at serving in the army. The Spartans had slaves, called Helots, that outnumbered them, and so in order to avoid or prevent a revolt, the army was highly trained and was forced to never stray too far from Sparta. Spartan citizens had an immense sense of trust in each other on the battlefield because of their daily life, and it showed.

There Leonidas with 300 Lakedemonians and 700 Thespious fought against Kserksis Persian army, till death. He had to do this giving the time to greeks to organize their defense and to give 2 Battles, one on Marathon and a battleship in Salamina where the persian forces had great losts and they resigned. Visit Greece and you 'll find a lot of interesting men in greek History(not mythology). :}

I wouldn't go to see this film but I'd rent it out.
By TheOtherDude 1161377019 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou Arrogants Shame on everybody who makes fun of Anchent Greece..When the Greeks were building the Parthenon and they had democracy the rest of you people were living in cages and eating each other.. there fore show a little respect on the Greeks..Bisexuality was something normal in the old times, still you have no right to make fun of Achilles or Leonidas.. As for the Spartans they new that they were going to lose the fight..but they alaways said ''When we go to war we have only two options..whether we are going to come home as winners or dead on our shields'' thats why they stayed and die in thermopyle...
you need a bit of a history lesson...
Unless I am mistaken... while the greeks were still trying to pull their siht together the Egyptiions, Myans, Aztec, and Chinese all had THRIVING comunities with quite a few "modern" convienyences.
They also had 1. Centralized government, 2. Written and Recorded histories, 3. Taxes, 4. Standing Armies, 5. Complex Social structure, 6. A "Judicial Branch" of government (a portion of the government set asside to Handle legal matters) 7. Less than perfect moral standing.
Hmmm I wonder if you are even able to respond to this... considering that according to you the "Greeks" were the first "advanced" society and you forget that the ROMANS took the "Greeks" over VERY Early in their history.
but if it wasnt for the greeks stopping the persians, such as the battle of marathon, salamis and plataea, they could have possibly conquered rome and the world as we know it could be quite different. for example we could all be speakin Farsi.
By nmbr1stna812 1165625308 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou are mistaken about a few things... such as the fact that the aztec civilization did not rise until the 13th century AD, the some mayan cities were even with some greek city states. China was hardly united at the time either, although they were quite advanced. As for complex social structure... how is that a comodity? would you like to be separated from other people just because of the family into which you were born and have no chance of advancing yourself? Chances are, you would be on of the many peasants with little education giving a large part of your wages to some other family.. complex social structure.. yay

By salas1 1173918101 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe Greeks and Romans were none too picky about who or what they screwed.
The old texts (i.e., Odyssey, Illiad, Aeneid) and wall murals (such as in Pompei) have shown just how decadent the culture was.
But still... we don't need to be bombarded with that aspect of it in the movies.
"Alexander" wasn't about his conquests or the battles.
It was about him and Hephaestion prancing around.
Quite disappointing.
This movie should (and probably will) follow Frank Miller's Sin City noir style.
And it will hopefully concentrate more on the bravery and courage of 300 warriors who stood against an insurmountable army of invaders, rather than the prowess of said 300 in bedroom conquests.
The only decadence I know is that of the followers of the desert dog. They are of three types. Those who hide behind veils, those who love slaps and those who choose to be morons.
I drive my axe blade into your face, decadent whimp. Die!
Alexander sucked, major disappoint
