  • definitly not

it is not a bunker buster, trust me... it's specifically designed to penetrate vehicle armor, about 20 or so feet from the ground it explodes (as you see) and launches a high explosive projectile into the target, normally piercing the armor and exploding inside

    • Right and Wrong

Good job Cpt. Obvious, it is not a bunker buster (BLU-113 Penetrator) or similarly designed munition. However you were close, but wrong about what it IS.

Landie was right on with the AGM-154A Joint Standoff Weapon, there are 3 variants to this weapon the Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. Alpha is for "soft" and light armored targets. It carries 145 BLU-97/B sub munitions, These "bomblets" have a triple treat, shaped charge for anti-armor, frag casing for anti-personnel and has an incendiary effect for Anti-Things That Burn.

The variant you were thinking of is the B. The Bravo variant is the anti-armor variant which carries six BLU-108/B sub munitions. Each BLU-108/B drops four guided projectiles that have a shaped charge capable of defeating reinforced armored targets.

Although the Alpha variant has some anti-armor capability, It is very limited, for armor such as tanks, it would simply rip up the outside all to hell, destroying comms and any externally mounted fuel tanks or weapons but would not completely destroy/disable it. They are effective against an armored personnel carrier at best. Or better yet, trucks, or a truck mounted MLRS, like the one in the video.

Another fun fact is that the powered flight version gives you a 120nm range from a high altitude launch. Oh and each one costs about 2 million$ , depending on the variant.

I'm glad to see someone who can effectively explain and entertain.

I especially liked the part, "... and has an incendiary effect for Anti-Things That Burn."

    • To you it may.

Bunkers has evolved from little concrete pill boxes to enormous underground facilities that be protected by as much as 100 feet of earth and 20 feet of reinforced concrete. The AGM-154A would not penetrate 1 foot of reinforced concrete, let alone 5 feet of earthit is not designed to do so. Hell the munition detonates BEFORE it reaches its target... Its effect would cause some dust to rise and maybe a couple fast moving hot pieces of metal to dig into the earth a foot or two. Do a google search on the BLU-113 Penetrator and you can see for yourself.

    • Interesting.

Cheers for the insight, never knew there was so much involved in busting a bunker or in building a bunker to bust in the first place. The only bunkers i know about need a sand-wedge to get out of them. Will check that BLU-113 Penetrator on Google.

  • Nice fire ball...

Yeah, that's nice. The explosion to me looks almost like a tiny nuclear one. Especially towards the end because of it's stem of dust and fire which also occurs during a nuclear detonation. It woude have been interesting to see how much the car underneath takes damage...
