Saving Water in Your San Diego Landscape Projects

Water is a vital component in any San Diego landscape design. Providing your plants and trees the proper amount of water will not only keep them looking beautiful, it will help them grow faster and healthier. But, of course, we always have to bear in mind the money matters accompanying every element we put in our San Diego Landscape plan. And watering your whole garden regularly may entail higher bills. Hence, we need to follow simple methods to avoid getting headaches every time we get our monthly water bills. Here are some few changes and tricks that have been proven helpful to garden owners:

San Diego landscape Tip: Be very keen about the water needs of your garden and this may vary according to the climate or the season you are in. Your plants will need more water during the summer season than they would during winter. Water your lawn every five to seven days in summer and every ten to fourteen days during winter.
San Diego landscape Tip: Water your garden during the cold parts of the day to minimize losing your water to evaporation. Early in the morning or late in the evening are the best times to give your plants a shower.
San Diego landscape Tip: Be aware of the weather forecasts. There's no need to water your garden when there's rain coming up. Remember that a solid and long rainfall means that you do not need to water your garden even up to four weeks. The same is true when the weather is windy. Watering your garden when there's strong wind blowing will have more water wasted on other parts of the garden that don't even need the water.
San Diego landscape Tip: Rainwater tanks prove helpful to people raising landscapes. Not only do these tanks save you a lot of water, some states give rebates for every purchase of a tank. Visit your neighborhood's garden shop to ask about this.
San Diego landscape Tip: Be aware of how much water your garden really needs. Basically they need to be around the top part of the soil at 15 to 20 centimeters. Seeing more puddle on the surface should warn you that you have added too much. Excess water will go beyond the roots of your plants and just go to waste.
San Diego landscape Tip: A sprinkler system is also a good idea especially for those with larger gardens. But make sure that upon installation of the system that the water it emits falls directly on your garden. Minimize having the water landing on paved areas, footpaths, or the road. Not only will these prevent slips and other accidents, much water will be saved too.
San Diego landscape Tip: It follows, therefore, that you need to asses the effectiveness of your sprinkler systems. Put out inefficient ones and consider using the drip irrigation. Drip irrigation is very advantageous as it assures you that it sends water to the roots of your garden plants. (Do not water the leaves of your plants. The roots are responsible for bringing up the water to your plants so focus on them when watering.)
San Diego landscape Tip: Avoid cutting your grasses to within one inch of its life. With their blades high, at least 3 inches, they will be able to provide shade to the roots as they develop and grow deeper. These roots will efficiently hold moisture in your soil.
San Diego landscape Tip: Make sure that you do not put too much fertilizer in your garden. This will get your plants and trees really thirsty-and almost most of the time. Basic San Diego Landscape rules dictate that you use fertilizers that are not easily soluble in water and with slow release.
San Diego landscape Tip: A layer of mulch, which could be composed of gravel, woodchips, or stone, can prevent faster water evaporation in your garden. Have them beautifully arranged around the trees and over the flower beds.
San Diego Landscape may be an expensive thing to undertake. But with these simple tips in hand, one may just be able to save more than he thought he could.
