Discrimination or good business?

U.S. airline United Airlines has a new policy requiring overweight passengers buy an extra seat if they are unable to comfortably and safely fasten their seat belt.

Southwest, Continental, and Alaska Air Group have all considered similar policies of charging the obese for an extra seat.

Is this discrimination? Should overweight passengers be required to pay for an extra seat? Have you had a similar unpleasant experience?
