It wasn't an earthquake...
The wind blew through the canyon at regular gusts. The designers didn't take this into account and the bridge would sway at the same regular interval. The result was that each gust of wind reinforced the sway of the bridge and amplified it. Until finally, the bridge collapsed. Now, bridges are designed with natural wind patterns taken into account.

This wasn't an earthquake moron, it was ...
The wind exceeded the capacity of the bridge to stustain its rigidness. I know im an engineer and I build bridges all over the world. The bridge in southern France is the highest in the world, yeah that was me who designed it.
