The “Is It True?” Series Episode Thirty-One

“Kiss the Blarney Stone for Luck”

Something like 300,000 people go to Cork, Ireland to kiss the Blarney Stone every year. They lie down backwards with someone sitting on their legs, and wedge their head in the crevice so they can reach it. After a few pilgrims fell into the abyss, iron rails were put there to grab hold of while attempting this feat. I thought it was for luck, however, they do this in hopes of becoming more persuasive and eloquent. In some instances, I suppose this could be considered the equivalent of luck. I want to go there, but then I want to go everywhere. I could take or leave stone, but I would like to go to Ireland.

I wrote a love note and stuck it to the courtyard wall at Juliet’s House with a piece of chewing gum. This is what you do when you are in Verona, Italy at night time. I hope it’s still there because I’m still looking due to that particular unrequited love. The “Casa di Giulietta” is the actual residence of the Della Scala family and the famous balcony you see in pictures. Although the story of “Romeo and Juliet” is fictional, it is based on this rather savage family that was constantly feuding around the 13th & 14th centuries. It has become custom for people to write a quick love note on any shred of paper and attach it to the walls of the courtyard. These walls, from the street to the front door, are completely covered with layer upon layer of letters….hope and wishes, pleading and begging, and so on. People will write on wrappers, napkins, anything, or in a pinch, directly on the gum. Even though it seems quite comical and absurd, I did it. I was on a month long trip to Europe alone, need I say more. Verona, Italy is a great stop between Venice and Milan. It has a river that winds around the city and is indeed a very romantic place.

I don’t believe in luck per say, but I believe people can be lucky. I don’t play the lottery, but let’s say someone wins the lottery. This has to be luck. I have a friend that has been using a “system” for decades, which seems quite a bit more ridiculous than believing in luck. Thinking I can control something seems more dangerous than believing in a little luck now and then. I really feel that when I am following my heart, listening to the voice inside me…..coincidences, circumstances, and people miraculously show up to support that. Now is that luck? I believe in taking action and focusing on the best possible outcome. I also realize that I might know what that is. I’m open to the unexpected and if I am disappointed…..more will be revealed.

I must admit that while I don’t believe I can control what happens by crossing my fingers, I sometimes do. I don’t believe I can protect myself by knocking on wood, but I sometimes do, just in case. I’ve thrown a penny in a fountain, but a rabbit’s foot freaks me out. Ick! Where do they get them from? Don’t think about it. I always have a guitar pick in my pocket. I feel weird if I don’t, like something’s not quite right. I wouldn’t walk under a ladder unless I had to, but I freely step on cracks in the sidewalk. People say “lucky in love”. One can’t be “lucky in love”, if they don’t love in the first place. I know that I have the best chance of being lucky, if I follow my heart. I Honor My Truth!
