A Pugilistic Poem

Im leaning on the stove
over one red hot eye
resting my elbows on
the counter covering
my head in a bath towel
hovering over a
shallow pot breathing in
the intense rising steam
cutting through congestion
expectorating in
the sink wiping my mouth
glancing at the bubbling
water praying for a
release from infernal
pain in my sinuses
and a way out of the
stress wondering where the
hell is this coming from
and when is the damned bell
going to ring and this bout
be over and Ill be
finished with this mess at
peace ready for a rest
