The Jones Act was enacted in 1920 called the Merchant Marine Act of 1920. It provided a method for injured seamen to sue for compensation. However, the other side of the Jones Act has to with the Cabotage laws. That protects U.S. manufactured, U.S. Flagged, U.S. owned and U.S. manned vessls from foreign vessels coming into U.S. waters and carrying persons or property from one U.S. port to another.
