Your attitude toward God will change once you understand this new perspective on 1 Peter 5:6.

The verse says, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

I used to think that meant that, if I'm ever poor or sick, I should just humble myself and submit to that poverty and sickness. I actually thought that poverty and sickness was God's will!

But the key here is that God's will for you is abundance, health, and overflow! He wants you to have so much of everything that you just can't keep it to yourself. He loves it when we are generous and give freely; to give freely, we have to receive freely.

So what it REALLY means to humble yourself under God's hand is to throw away thoughts of lack, sickness, evil, etc., and to submit to God's will, which is prosperity and health.

That is comforting to know. God has our best interests in mind. Doesn't that make you want to hug Him? :)
