duh..
its actually very simple physics. Gravity pulls down on the forks which gives them a center of gravity. The big fat ends of the fork make the center of gravity drop below the point where the coin is balanced therefore the coin stays perfectly balanced.

Physics
Perfect example of the ODD physics of Forks... they are so unbalanced that their center of gravity is WAY outside of thier actual Shape. I have seen similar things done with Forks and Potatoes. I like the coin trick better though because it is much more.... Sleek. Try a film of the same thing balanced on the head of a PIN. At certain angles it will appear that the items are "Floating in thin air"

  And why do you think it would be any difference if you use a plastic thermos. If you think any magnets are used, you are way wrong... The forks and the thermos are made of stainless steel and therefore non magnetic and the coin is also non magnetic...
