    Before all the Uranus jokes start...
    I will have you know scientists are finally going to rename it.
    Uranus does not have a long history. It was first discovered by William Herschel who named it Goergium Sidus after King George the III but the international opion was that it should have a name not linked to one government. A german named Johann Elert Bode finally named it. He was a great astromomer and great historian (but obvoiusly poor in english) named it Uranus after the greek god of the sky.
    Some of the current names suggested came mostly from high school science students. They include Urscrotum, Mahbigschlong, Urectum, Indataint etc... Initially Urscrotem was very popular but some dont like it. Slowly Mahbigschlong is winning them over 1 by 1. Only a short time ago,, Mahbigschlong was in behind but Uranus is loosing fast! Of course, alot of the old timers have known Uranus a long time just want to stay with it.

    Eventually... its like calling a horse race!

    I wonder does a Solar System with a larger sun has a bigger or smaller aether for light to travel along?
    Would that difference have an effect on that solar systems speed of light, sound and other constants?
    If e=mc^2, could the biggest mass in a solar system preset a speed of light that is local to each solar system?

    Thought provoking stuff here. It was inevitable that it provoke the old God versus science debate, which is kind of a shame... on its own merits, it stands up as worthwhile.

    Distance is such a difficult thing for us to get our heads around... even as close in as Mars, the next planet out, the rover programmers have to deal with an 11-minute delay in steering commands. That's as fast as radio can transmit. Try an 11-minute delay between input and result on your Playstation and it'll drive you nuts. Forget Jean-Luc Picard checking in with Earth while he's hanging around Rigel... in reality, that message would crank up one hell of a long distance bill. Instantaneous two-way radio conversations over that distance are impossible. Maybe we have to learn patience before we go exploring.

    Don't feel insignificant as you watch this, because you're not. We have meaning, to ourselves and to one another. But yes, we ARE small.

      I'll be curious to see what quantum effects we will learn about from quantum entanglement that might help this problem. Seeing as they claim that entangled photons can effect each other instantaneously no matter the distance between them. Its what Einstein referred to as the "Spooky effect". We are already starting to utilise these effects for cryptography and basic computing. Look up quantum entanglement, it'll freak you out :)

    they S**k stars and planets in and then they all collect in a container thing down in the black hole. when the container fills up so it can't hold anymore planets, it explodes! thats how the parallel universes exist. that how the big bang happens an new universes form. we did come from somewhere, wake up! didn't ever hear this huh?

      but once we accomplish these goals life will become boring...think about about it...we would all be forced to sit at home, go to work/school, watch tv, and actually feel safe while doing so...where's the thrill in that?     Doesnt it scare you that we are very very small, when i was watching the video i didnt know there was another large sun " arcturus " , and my god thats huge... isnt it scary, to have planets bigger than earth... wouldnt it be scary that there'll be a galaxy filled with planets that are 10 to 100 times bigger that jupiter.... wouldnt it be even more scary, there will be an even bigger sun or arcturus out there some where... i know i would.

    I mean just imagine life out there, life beings 10 to 100 times bigger than us, or yet their foot or something could just be the size of all 7 continents combined in earth... or even bigger.

    I don't think that this video was added to be turned into a religion vs. science debate. Religion has existed for thousands of years. Science and technology has been rapidly researched and discoveries have been made in the past centuries. The ancient Aztecs believed that the sun was to be worshipped, that it had a mind of its own. Many people think that in a thousand years, we will look back on Christianity and think of it as we think of the Aztec religion now; mere ignorance waiting to be disproved. Remember, science can only disprove theories, not prove. Religous fundamentalists take every word of the bible literally. Is this right to do? The answer is, we do not know. As the scientific aspects of the universe are uncovered, we repeatedly realize that a majority of our theories were incorrect. A symbolical message that is in the bible is that human knowledge is absolutely rubbish compared to the knowledge of God. Maybe God is that level of infinite knowledge that can never be reached. For those who are on the fence about whether or not to live your life according to God, or to science, I leave you with this. It is better to live through life using your talents to better yourself and the world, so that when you die, if there is no God, you will be remembered fondly by those you left behind, and you will have no regrets; if there is a God, he will judge you for caring for his other creations; as Jesus instructed, not for whether or not you believed in him.

      Here are a few things to consider:

      1- In the new testament, it says this about God. "In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD WAS God."

      2- Origin of the WORD "Universe". Uni= one. Versa= Body of WORDS. We (Christians) are also known as the BODY of Christ. So, when you look at the meaning of the word Universe, its very easy to see how its referring to the one body of words (meaning Christ/God and his church).

      3- God created the garden of Eden, then created man and woman to "be fruitful and multiply and fill up the whole Earth". The garden WAS NOT the whole earth back then, it was a specific finitely defined area in what is now Iraq. God's plan was for them to be fruitful and basically expand the garden to encompass the earth and THEN to spread the garden throughout the universe. When Adam and Eve rebelled by eating the fruit, they screwed up God's plans.

      Basically, it was God's intention for us to be fruitful and fill up the whole universe, hence the reason there's NO LIFE anywhere out there... yet.

      I mean, come on. If we're really just one of BILLIONS of planets with life on it; chances are some of those civilizations are technologically more advanced than us. You mean to tell me, with literally millions of other civilizations out there, we haven't, in the last 60 years, been able to pick up ONE SINGLE errant radio or TV signal from somewhere else? We haven't been able to detect ONE single planet that could possibly support life? That's worse odds than winning at Powerball a dozen times.

      Te real reason why there's no life out there is we (as God's children) haven't put it out there yet. Jesus fixed what Adam and Eve broke, and when he returns (which will be during our generation by the way), we will be renewed and perfected and pick up where Adam and Eve screwed up.

      That's a bit fatalistic... So, you're making the assumption that ALL life in the universe desires to destroy themselves? Well, humans are the only creatures on Earth that lust power and kill for it; monkeys, fish,etc don't have thopse carnal desires. Tyhey might fight to defend territory, food or the ability to mate, but they don't kill over ideologies, like religion. I think its a little foolish to think that, since humans have a suicidal tendency, that (assuming life existed elsewhere) they'd all share that same self-destructive tendency.       That brings us back to the fact that God created us with something no other species has: Free will. Animals do things out of instinct and necessity. We do things out of WANT. You only NEED one pair of shoes; yet most people WANT more and have tastes about what shoes they prefer. Does a lion decide, "Hmmm, today I'd rather have zebra than gazelle?" NO, they eat whatever's easiest becasue they NEED to eat. They're not selective like humans.

      So, if we evolved from monkeys, that don't have free will or carnal desires, why do we? Where did that free will come from? Why would evolution, which supposedly improves on previous characteristics over time, program us with something that has the possibility to ultimately be destructive to us? What "benefit" does that have that makes it easier for us to gather food or find a mate? How does that help us work together for a common good; like pack animals (wolves, etc)? Answer= It doesn't, so why would evolution create that burden?

      Why. Why, indeed. Why would any one being bother with finite details as tiny as an atom or a single cell organism, if that same being creates universes? One could argue that an animal is simply one big universe of many small things (cells of course, then down to atoms). This would lead to an intelligence of infinite proportions, to be able to learn, use, and store all of that information, and thats BEFORE you take into account that being's personality or emotions or other free thoughts.

      That of course begs the question: If such a being exists, then how does it exist (as in what form, what plane of existance) and WHERE does it exist? To say that Abraham's God created man in his image, then somewhere there is a really really really huge humanoid like being in the universe, that just so happens to make his home in the very universe he created (unless he made more than one). Or, that the scripture describing this was a metaphore. Gender is implied by the writings, | did not mean to offend anyone by not saying 'mankind'.

      Then, one would wonder why would such energy and effort be spent on such finite detail while covering infinite scope in terms of 'size'. After all, unless one was totally and entirely occupied by the function of creating, then surely that being would be curious about what becomes of their creations once they've been in existance for any measureable time. Why would something be created only to be discarded or ignored?

      There are too many paradoxes to over come and too little logic surrounding the existance of a diety or god. Simply believing in them only makes them exist on a singular plane, one which isnt in the realm of actuall physical tangibility. The rest would have to sooner or later be proven, and until that happens, then | will remain a FORMER religious believer of a diety.

      People get so wrapped up with "why did God create us"? He's so big, so why would he waste his time.

      Well its really simple; why do WE have children? Because we want companionship and to PROSPER AND BE FRUITFUL. God's the same way... He made us in his image. The problem is, we screwed up in Eden and can no longer see the universe with spiritual eyes. That's the difference between now and before Adam sinned. They used to walk in revelation; speaking things in to existene, just like God does. Once they sinned, they went from revelation to reason.

      Before you simply write off God; understand that time is getting VERY VERY VERY short. Christians no longer have time to ride the fence, because Christ WILL be returning in our generation. The prophetic clock basically started the count down in 1948 when Israel was reestablished.

      It's time to stop reasoning and trying to make excuses for why you don't want to make Jesus your Lord and Master. It all boils down to one thing: If you admit that God exists, that places the burden on you to stop sinning; and people don't want to stop sinning.
