  • i want more

but i mean i want to see true martial arts which means they need to fight and stop dancing around like some little girls

  • People really need to stop

calling this martial arts. The word martial is relating to combat or fighting. This is choriographed dancing imitating martial arts. And they didn't even do that that well compared to others I've seen. Good work on what they do but they do not do martial arts.

  • Great showmanship and acrobatic skills.

But their kicks need work. They're incomplete, that is they lose force before striking, rather than after.

It seems that they practice for show or perhaps competition rather than martial skill.

    Still enjoyable to watch, though.

    • wait a second...

what do u mean their kicks are incomplete? they can't go full force, especially during the fight choreograhy...and they do practice "martial skill", they're just practicing self control so they don't kill each other...>_<

By chadamyen 1163461164 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • What I mean is,

The delivery of the kicks, especially those in the begining (when they are not practicing against one another), incomplete - their legs aren't fully extended (I don't mean locked knees - never that), so their knees are bent more than they should be. That reduces the power, the control and the accuracy of the kick. It is usually caused by short, undeveloped muscles - though that is clearly not the case.
Also, especially when practicing without an opponent, a strike should have a complete follow-through, building up force, so it peaks just /after/ where the opponent is (or would be). Based on the type of kicks (aerial roundhouses), their opponents would be front and center. Their kicks peaked roughly 10-15 degrees /before/.

Actually, when they did fight one another, their kicks were aimed precisely right for /not/ hurting each other. That is, I believe, the cause for the incomplete kicks I mentioned.

Which only means that they study and practice for sports, for competition, and show, rather than actual self-defense martial skills. Nothing wrong with that. It was just an observation.

Me, I practice martial arts for self-defense, not for competitive sports or show, so it stood out in my eyes.

By Ye Olde Nick 1163493648 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • I see your point...

martial arts used for self-defence is radically different from competition or performance style...but they are performing and linking many difficult kicks together, so their accuracy won't be on target all the time. They are also performing with music, so they need to execute their skills on cue, so naturally their technique will be slightly different from when they are just throwing skills at their own pace. I practice martial arts for competition and performances, so I know how difficult it is to maintain form when under the pressure that accompanies performing for an audience.

      You made good observations though.

I''ll just direct you to re-read both of my posts.

Do you still think I'm just try to show off what M.A, skills I may have?

I'll say it straight out - I'm a student. I'm not as competant a martial artist as these guys are in their athletic skills. It is just different.

Martial Arts are about fighting without a weapon, or more like BEING a weapon. In offense or in defense. Showy moves, like those displayed by Team Ryoku (did I get their name right?) are not about combat. They are about athletic prowess, which, again, is great, beautiful to behold, and a worthy and respected skill (Chinese Opera, for example).

Just chill man. And learn to really read what you see.

    • Speaking of sad...

      YOUR = Possessive pronoun
YOU'RE = Contraction of "you are."

YOUR problem is that YOU'RE quick to point out mistakes in others, but YOU'RE slow to see YOUR own.

      Have a nice life.

  • Martial Arts??? More like CIRCUS STUNTS

This is NOT martial arts, its a freaking joke! Bruce Lee is rolling over in his grave every time someone posts a video of circus performers claiming to be martial artists

    • Closed minded.

The point is, this is what is called "extreme martial arts". Honestly, what is in a name anyways? Call it tricking, movie stunts, whatever you want, but at no point in time did they refer to this as "traditional martial arts". Therefore, just respect their skills and their showmanship. If you don't like it, focus on what you do like - go find other videos. No need to disrespect others because it just shows that you have no discipline of your own.
