I'm a veteran of both operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, the last of which bought me a spine injury and pain for the rest of my life.

I'm afraid a lot of people don't really get it. The two operations have NOTHING to do with each other.

The first was to get Bin Laden, and neutralize the tyranny of the Taliban. Afghanistan's country infrastructure and people are in better shape now, by all measures, since we went.

Iraqi Freedom was a completely different mission, to take out Hussein. Were the American people led to believe the two were connected? I think so. But if you were ever paying attention, they weren't.

And Sadaam was FAR more ruthless and killed millions of citizens of his own country, methodically and ruthlessly, with chemical weapons.

If he knew anyone spoke against Sadaam politically, the man would to a chair and forced to watch as his wife and children were raped in all orifices with a broken bottle.

Please, you brilliant people, give me any example of another dictator in the world today that came even close to these horrific acts! Give me a more worthy target to be taken out of power. You can't come close.

We didn't go in there to murder tons of innocent people!

The first soldiers encountered at the border were so sad they didn't even have boots or food. Just sandals and a gun, and no belief in what they were told to protect. They surrendered right away, and we immediately gave them food and treated them under the Geneva Convention provisions.

I am personally embarrassed by the acts of a few complete idiots in other areas and branches service and their acts. The prison example has cast a shadow on the noble service I and my fellow honorable servicemen proudly performed. There are screw-ups everywhere, and when you find them, you deal with them. But these events cannot negate the overall good and future that promises for the Iraqi people.

The insurgent forces are NOT Iraqis. If they were, and they were defending their country, would they be killing the very leaders that have just been elected and appointed by themselves? Again, I beg of you, please can you justify your logic!? And again, you can't.

These people have been treated like slaves, and lived in poverty while Baghdad should be one of the richest cities of Asia. All while this monger had a dozen golden toilets to sit on, while he could murder and mangle any who dared ask a question of his conduct.

I'm not going to tell you that you have no right to say the things you have, because as a soldier, I swore to your right with my life.

But please, open your eyes. Stop believing that your fellow countrymen are some sort of evil. And if you really hate it that bad, perhaps you'd like to move.

With all due respect to all who serve at this moment, you can't label those who criticize as "anti-americans", you don't have any damn right to do so. Any american loves his/her country as much as you do, if you can't stand criticism then you completely lost whatever values the Army, Navy, Air Force, the Marines, etc, taught you. Last time i looked our side of the fence seemed as unequal as the iran, iraqi or where ever else. The world isn't the black and white that its made out to be.

For example, there aren't just 'the insurgents'. There are at least 4 different groups fighting it out in Iraq right now:-

International Islamist groups (i.e. Al-Qaeda in Iraq) who are Sunni and who are trying to defeat Westerners AND Iraqi Shiites

National Islamist groups (i.e. Muqtada al-Sadr) who are Shiite and fighting against Westerners AND Iraqi Sunnis.

Baathist Loyalists fighting against Westerners AND against new political forces that threaten their traditional power base.

Nationalist who are secular and want to see an end to Westerner occupation of Iraq.

Your correct to say that both Syria and Iran have a stake in supporting various factions - this is global power politics after all. The problem is, the US unleashed a lot of these problems by itself trying to play and win the game of geopolitics, by removing Saddam Hussein on what have proved to be false charges.

The aim was to remove him, install a democratic and Western leaning government - thereby securing US and Western interests in the MIddle East in the future, primarily due to the importance of Iraq's energy reserves. One only has to look at Putin's use of Russia's energy production as a political weapon in Eastern Europe to see the significance that energy will have on foreign policy in the future.
