On June 5th a friend and I hiked the entire 26.6 mile length of the rugged Sandia Crest Trail (New Mexico: Placitas to Tijeras) in a little over 11 hours. The trail gains 4,118 feet to the peak, only to lose 4,081 feet on the way down. The total elevation change of 8,199 feet makes for a challenging day hike. Few people attempt this hike in one day.
