Straight Line Riddle

the slash across the = sign

1. make the first sign a 4
2. make the second sign a 4
3. make the equal sign a "not equal to" sign
4. make the equal sign a "less than or equal to" sign

Put a single line in front of one of the 5's making it a variable and then solve!

5l + 5 + 5 = 550

5l = 540

l = 108

turning the first plus ino a 4 works perfectly. changing the equals sign to a greater than sign will require two lines and does not support his request for support of the equation

creating a less than or equal to sign changes the request for supporting the equation and also would
require the use of two lines, not one

The man asked for two solutions to support the equation. Putting a line through the equals sign to negate the equation does not support his request.
