The english word list I found may not be good...
(What is a splattere and a sparking ? But they are in the list I found...)

I did it on a french word list, and I can already say that there's a 11 letters french word that works. (It's "avaliseraie" for the french-speaking curious, mmh quite a strange word, but it was in my word list...)
I'll give it a run on the english language as soon as I can lay my hand on a complete english word list (besides, if someone got one for me...)

(there's no 1 letter word in german, so problem solved. Too bad, they would have break the record for sure !)
Italian : 9 letters : "nominativ", "esaltavat" or "esaltavam" (among some others)
(nominativ - nominati - nominai - nomina - nomin - nomi - noi - no - o)
Spanish : 9 letters : "coartador"
(cortador - cortado - cortao - corta - cora - cor - co - o)
And, errr...
Japanese : a bunch of 7 letters. For instance : "ikkyoku"
(ikyoku - ikyou - ikyo (I know this one ;) - iko - ik - i
