As an anthropologist - I have to correct you - Jaguars, Panthers, and Leopards are all the same species. The name differs from region to region ONLY because of language/cultural differences - they are simply the dominant big cat of the Americas.

So you think studying the cultural development of humans makes you an expert in wildlife? Before you correct someone you should actually make sure you know what you're talking about... Actually, Slyr98 was correct. The melanistic or all black form of Jaguars, Leopards, Pumas, etc. are also called Panthers. Your statement is therefore incorrect as you state that a member of a species when in fact a Panther is simply a designation for a (Big) black cat of many kinds.

is no comparison. Cobras are veninous, while anacondas aren't. If it were a veninous snake the kitten wouldn't have stand a chance. Besides, I think this film was directed, because the snake gave up to easy.

Well I remembered something about Jaguars and panthers being the same thing so I googled it. Apparently Panther is a more generic term for a big cat and according to one site claimed it can refer to a Jaguar, Leopard, Lion or Tiger.

As you'll notice at the end of the film, the black "panther" was playing with what we would call a Jaguar. I think the black on is a male Jaguar and the spotted one the female.

Panther IS a jaguar that has black fur. JAGUARS that have too much of the black pigment called melanin are sometimes called panthers, but still they are JAGUARS.

I remember having to do research on Panthers/leopards for shcool (although that was about 6yrs ago so i cant remeber everything) but Im pretty sure that the Jaguar is a seperate species to Leopard/Panther, as neither leopards nor Panthers are indigenous to South America. Panthers are a genetic mutation of Leopard which caused their fur to become Black and adapt more to jungle regions of Africa whilst the leopard stayed on the plains.. but I could be wrong, any expert wanna step in here and put an end to this?

Just look up melanism on wikipedia. Black panther is a name given to both leopards and jaguars with that genetic mutation called melanism (caused by changes in the agouti gene).
