As an experienced repair tech, I can tell you this is a great idea.
The only thing I would do different is not use clipper oil.
This may be petrolium based and will eat plastics that are part of the movment.
The sled gear appears to be metal as do the slides, but there might be plastic that slides around those.
You will want to use white lithium grease like http://www.plasticservices.com/MoldingAcces/whtgrease.htm . Remember to never use petrolium based products with plastic, just like never using vaseline with condoms.
While you have it opened Spray a small amount of windex on a Q-tip and gently clean the lens.
If you spot any hair, dust fibers around those gears, you will have to pick those out first.
The only other thing is if the door is belt driven, and you have been having problems with it, get some belt dressing or rubber rejuvinator and fix that while you have it open.
