In 2005, Nabil Shaban found himself being nominated Best Actor by the theatre critics of Scotland. This was for his portrayal of Macheath in theatre Workshop's production of Brecht's "Threepenny Opera". When the four nominees names were announced, he was astonished to find that he, formerly known as Sil, the notorious enemy of Doctor Who, was competing with the next new Doctor, David Tennant, for the same Best Actor award.
