The Le Mans dbut of the technically innovative Audi R15 TDI demonstrated that it has become even harder to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an entirely new Sports Prototype at the first attempt. After the traditional test day was canceled there was no longer any opportunity to test and set-up a new car for the 13.629-kilometer long track at Le Mans this had to be done exclusively during the race week. Audi Sport Team Joest nevertheless claimed a podium position at the first attempt with the R15 TDI on June 13/14, 2009 and, in doing so, learned a great deal for next year, when Audi aims to reclaim the Le Mans winners trophy.
