I'm pretty sure this is Garrett McNamara's insane tube at Peahi(Jaws) that won him tube ride of the year at the Billabong XXL awards a few years back. And this wasn't even one of the finalists for biggest wave of the year. Waves of 50 ft actually happen all around the world with the right conditions --believe it or not, France had an Atlantic swell 3 years back that created 70 foot surfable waves. South Africa, Australia, California (Mavericks), not to mention several open ocean breaks far from any mainland(Cortes Bank). Anyway, at least do a little research before you prove you are foolish...

They have the tallest waves the size of skyscrapers, That had to be the best ride ever. unfortunately they never found him.

i think the bad sound is because the surfer might be carrying a mic..it gets louder to the end.

And it's really incredible how the wave first seems never to stop growing... But you can see the surfer has respect. He doesn't do any turns. He knows he musn't get washed... If it's in Hawaii deadly rock formations are just a few meters below the surface.
I've even seen wind surfers go into big ones like that. Since the waves are often bigger than the sail it's usually good to have side-shore or off-shore wind. However, with the power of the wave you hardly need any wind once it pushes you.

I love watching this clip. It is real (google billabong odyssey for more like this) and it is amazing. Hats off to the camerman for making that slow pullback that shows the wave getting bigger and bigger.
