In response to "?", the path of least resistance is not always a straight line. Look at lightning for example. Have you ever seen 1 perfectly straight bolt? Thats because some air particles offer less resistance than others. Not that any of this truly matters for most people, but i hate seein stupid stuff like "LOL!!!one1!! dats stoopid wat?". People like that anger me.

...yet somehow some found something to criticize. 14 months ago, I went to my car one night and was confronted by 3 illegal aliens. They demanded money, and when I had none, they attacked me with baseball bats, breaking my neck and partially paralyzing me for life. I had played tennis, skiied, rafted, skydived, but that is over now. I do not blame Mexicans or illegal aliens for this, it could have happened anywhere. I am thankful for what I have left, and for sites like this which give me something to do other than lay here in bed and pity myself. Sometimes the racial attacks here sadden me. Wouldn't it be great if this little site played a role in bringing us all together? Wouldn't it be fantastic if instead of racial, religious and ethnic attacks it could be "I disagree, mate, but thanks for sharing..."

This definitely wasn't supposed to happen. IMHO it looks like the arc breaks when it touches the wiring above. I don't think that is proper procedure for switching off those lines...

This was a fault video - they guys working on the line found that it arced previously so the operation was repeated again but this time with video running. The power line was opened with NO load on it, what you saw here was purely 'charging energy' that a long line consumes naturally. The swing arm is called an isolator this is used to acually isolate the power line mechanically. The electrical isolator is integral to the insulators and it was this that was faulty. So when the swing arm opened it drew an arc - it went to about three storys high before the line operator opened another circuit breaker else where to kill it. If this arc had moved to any of the other lines then there would have been a gigger bang and flash.
