Short answer:
When you cut the strip for the 1st time you don't make an exact longer copy of the original strip.

Long answer:
If the strip is cut along the middle, instead of getting two separate strips, it becomes one long strip with TWO half-twists in it (not a MÃ¶bius strip). This happens because the original strip only has one edge which is twice as long as the original strip of paper. Cutting creates a second independent edge, half of which was on each side of the scissors. Cutting this new, longer strip down the middle creates two strips wound around each other.

  ONCE IT'S CUT (THE 1ST TIME) IT IS NO LONGER A MOBIUS STRIP (SINGLE SIDED 3D OBJECT). AFTER THE 1ST CUT IT BECOMES A 2 SIDED 3D OBJECT. TRY IT.
