Hindenburg Disaster

Wikipedia is very shetchy most of the time. Actually most accounts show 32 persons killed and 50 injured or burned. New testing shows that it was the fabric of the Graft Zepplin that started the fire, not the hydrogen. Lightning storms had been reported in the area of NJ that day. The fabric of the Hindenburg was ignited by lightning from one of these storms, according to some prominent researchers today.

The "Graf" was a completely different airship built by the Zeppelin company several years before the Hindenburg. If I remember correctly, the Graf Zeppelin actually flew a passanger cruise around the world before airplanes could even fly across the Atlantic. Also, the flight in this video was the first flight of the second season for the Hindenburg. I find it awfully coincidental that this "accident" would happen at the biggest media event ever staged, at the time.

The most likely explanation currently, is this was started from one of the cables that circles the envelope snapped (This was very common, several would snap on every voyage) and created a small spark. The rest is very well known, the waterproofing was highly flammable, the hydrogen actually took along time to ignite, and you can even visibly see this, when the entire thing is in flame, its still floating!
