They are looking up because Google Earth pictures are taken mostly via airplane, not satellite (for clarity). Apparently, a plane was flying overhead and they were looking at it. The pictures of open ocean, though, are generally taken with a satellite.

Some of you are actually quite stupid to be honest. Do you know how google Earth works.?It is made of a series of shots using different images. As you zoom in, there is a point where the image switches from a satellite photo to one taken by a plane or helicopter. Thats why the guy is looking up, he is looking at the plane/helicopter.

check any site on the internet, and it will say that google earth uses both satellite imaging and aerial photography. And if you care to read my comments properly wou will notice that I said that they dont have photos taken by aircraft for everything - that is why some regions are less detailed than others

Google wouldnt have sent their own planes to do this, they would have collected images from various sources. In the UK, there is a photographic map of the entire country taken by aircraft and published by the Times. GOOGLE EARTH IS NOT ENTIRELY SATELLITE IMAGING.
