Once upon a time

BEWARE !
I used to do this and the only problem you will encounter is if you upgrade your hardware e.g. different hard disk.

I don't know quite how it happens, but I believe it has something to do with your I.D. config assigned by windows.

When you change h/drives and you copied everything to your new drive - it all looks and works fine, until you go to access those old hidden files - it asks for a password I think ??

  You are thinking of encryption. That uses a key that Windows XP makes for you the first time you use it. All is well until you change computers or re-install Windows - if you haven't backed up the key to a floppy (and it's not obvious how to do so), then the files are 100% useless.
