Should Hurricane Katrina Looters Be Tolerated?

What I noticed in most of the comments I have read here is the use of racist remarks. What does the color of skin have to do with what happened in New Orleans or any Natural Disaster for that matter? Why is it the Human Race can literally make a racial issue out of anything? What I saw in the video was HUMAN BEINGS stealing just because they can. I completely understand the need for food, clothing and items for survival. I wonder how many people actually shared what they took with others who were in need and unable to fend for themselves? We humans are so quick to point fingers in blame when something happens but cannot look in a mirror when the blame is at ourselves. What a pathetic race we have become. Yes, if it were to happen in a predominantly white city looting would not be an issue. And instead of Bush going on his "Social Security Cuts" tour during the storm he'd be working on preparedness. Well it 3 days until Hurricane Rita gets to the Texas Area, i can guarantee you Mr. Bush is ready now... but of coz everyone here will say its because he learnt his lesson, i can bet you if Katrina never happened and rita was on its way help would have been ready before it hit.

You can chalk the "looting" up to personal flaws but that is highly unlikely. We tend to blame things on internal personal characteristics when the behavior has more to do with external forces or the situation. In other words many of us would do the same given a similar situation.

People....stop this hatred! I have personal opinions of Katrina and the 'victims' too....but to slam some for their opinions is not a resolve. 75-90% of the population in N.O. is black. So....the storm did not and never will discriminate on race. It just happened to hit hard there, and the majority happened to be black. What if this all happened in Florida, or somewhere else that was predominently white? I have a real problem when race discrimination becomes the driving force for reasons there are victims. Personally, I too feel that alot of these people were adequately warned of the impending danger and alot of those people chose to stay behind. Thus this being a consequence, but there were some that couldn't leave, and that is where I think their own state officials let them down. I am fed up hearing how everything going on in New Orleans is the government and President Bushes falt, it was a Hurricane that started it and instead of people pulling together and helping one another they decided it was a good chance to steal from others. it was like watching people from a third world Country. Granted there were many that acted like civilized people but all the criminals made them all look bad. I feel for the good people of New Orleans that suffered through the whole ordeal and are still suffering but I know that all will be helped. In my mind I think with all the help from the govornment and caring people all over the Country and the world the ones that complain should be left to fin for themselves then baybe they would be more greatfull when good people try and help them. I think those police officers are wrong in what they are doing. They have a paying job at the moment. Those poor people gathering clothing and diapers and pet food deserve it. they have nothing. The goverment can not provide those things as fast as people need them. I don't think some of the people who do have money who are standed can even get to a cash machine to get money to buy stuff they need never mind finding a store that would be open to purchase from. I think those police should lose their jobs.
