  • i've seen the su-27, su-30 and su-35

    su-37 is very similar except that it has thrust vectoring nozzles and a western radar/nav. system - in my opinion, its the best dogfighter available.
    pair it with missiles like the alarm, sidewinder, aamram or phoenix and say sayonara to eurofighter typhoon, rafale, f-16, f-18, f-15...........

      Dogfighting means absolutely nothing if you go against American technology.

      Before that SU-37 (or any other Russian jet) even knew where American planes were, it would already have been shot down by long-rang air-to-air missile launched from an F15, F16, or F18 that have far superior radar and can guide their missiles using the information they get from AWACS airplanes with their 500 mile radius Radar capability.

      The SU-37 is a good dogfighting aircraft, but the only way it would be able to put its maneuverability to use was if Americans shut off their radar, and decided to go easy on them.

      Other than that, Russian aircraft are cannon fodder against American aircraft.

      Sure, the Su-37 may be currently the best dogfighter in the world, but who's dogfighting? Let the su-37 dogfight with the amraams fired from a cpl of dozen miles away. And another thing. Test pilots who get all the flying time in the world are a far cry from the rank and file Russian pilots who are hardly getting any. There is no substitute for flying time and experience.

      It really doesn't matter how good the su-37 is, being that the Russians can't afford enough of them to matter. And nobody else has enough of them to matter either. The US has thousands of F-15s, 16s, 18s. and other planes. We can take the losses. Remember, during ww2 the sherman tank was no match for a tiger or panther tank one-on-one.....but we had 50,000 of them. Look who won.

    INDIA - US Air combat exercises with su-27, su-30 vs American f-15 etc got results of kill ratios from 4-1 to 9-1 in INDIAS Favour.. The real world results speak for themselves. In actual combact the American planes do not stand a chance. That is why they are spending trremendous amounts of money on the f-22... for the cost not worth it get 10 su-30's instead

      Yes, but in that exercise a lot of the tactics the Americans would use(such as BVR engagements) were ommited to make things more interesting. Of course, if the Indians had high-off-borsight missiles with helmet aiming while we didn't, we were going to lose. The same thing happened in an exercise with the Israelis when we lost 220 out of 240 dogfights. THAT IS WHY WE KILL FROM LONG RANGE! Hold these exercises again with the aim9-x and lets see if those results are repeated. In any case, missiles now are so good that dogfighting is basically suicidal. You speak of real world? How many planes have we lost in combat since Viet-nam?

      You have to keep in mind, the USAF no longer fights in str8 up plane vs plane combat. The fighter is part of a system. When an adversary faces an American fighter(or even a tank), he is also facing AWACS, Jstars, UAVs, the battlefield internet, and all the other technological advances the US has made. All considered, insurgency aside, nobody can beat us on the battlefield(or in the air) right now.

    In Vietnam the “Americans” were flying F-15’s a 30 million dollar plane at the time, capable of long range fighting, and the best technology money can buy. The Vietnamese were flying the retired piece of shit MIG21’s, and guess what they had total control of the sky, they were shooting down F-15 in minutes. That is why the F-16 came out, and that is why top gun was developed, to teach pilots dog fighting tactics. While I love the F-22 it is sad to say that both top gun and dog fighters are slowing becoming obsolete, which I think is a big mistake.

      f 15 didn't come out till vietnam was almost over it was the f 4 phantom in vietnam. the f16 was developed as a low cost alternative, but was never considered to be a replacement or same quality of fighter as the f 15. and what airforce shot down an american f15? when? It has never happened. and yes the american pilots still practice dogfighting and are very efective at it. the kill ratio of vietnam was 16 - 1 in favour of the americans. so who ruled the sky? they lost the war on the ground but not in the air.

      F-15C fires AIM-7 SparrowAs of 2005, the F-15 in all air forces has a combined kill record of 104 kills to 0 losses in air combat. The US and Israel maintain that to date, the air superiority versions of the F-15 (F-15A/B/C/D models) have never been shot down by an enemy.

      The F-15 has never been defeated in combat. Konehead's info is absolutly right. If F-15s are exploding from crossing the sound barrier, it's because their age. The day of the F-15 will end just like all great fighters b4 it. One thing is for sure. You won't be reading any posts from people who have faced an F-15 in combat. Ask the Syrians and the Iraqis how good the F-15 is.

    Yes American Jets have better weaponry with more advance technology but I gotta say that Russian Jets look better and they fly way better. I think the Mig 29 Fulcrum is the best looking Jet fighter ever made.

    Russian Jets would probably win most dogfights where the pilots can ONLY use short range air to air missiles and guns.

    I am a U.S. Navy fighter pilot and a Top Gun instructor that flew with MiGs on exercises over Germany. I flew F-14 Tomcats and I am getting trained on the newer F-18 Hornets [F/A-18E and F Super Hornets]. When I was flying Tomcats, I engaged a MiG 29 Fulcrum on a dogfight meaning that I can't engage long-range. MiG 29 and Su Flanker series share the Archer System -- a helmet-mounted reticle targeting sight. The bastards merely swings their head to achieve a missle lock! We had to point the nose of our jets to get a good tone on these guys. I'd say we should diss these Russian fighters. As a pilot, I understand these things.

    I am not such a big expert on planes, but I know that the USA considered dogfithing obsolete short after WW2. Actually, in Vietnam, it was I think the F 104s, US planes were made specifically for long range engagements with very limited dogfithing abilities. I think, it was then the USA realized this was a huge mistake and that dogfithing was far from obsolete. That is why, current US warplanes are designed to dogfight.
    US planes are better of course, but do some research before commenting...

    The Su37s manovarabilty makes the F22 look like a tonker toy. But saying that the only Su37s ever flown were all prototypes and had no weapons I think the arguement about which would win the fight is slightly mute considering the Su37 couldnt shoot back anyway. But the thing thats most important is that at the Paris Air show in '97 An Su37 piolet put the plane threw its paces and challenged all commers to a dog Fight, Strangely enough no one wanted to try, even your beloved F22. Oh and the Su37 is the only aircraft that can fly backwards for a few seconds, Quite simply no other aircraft can come close to the angles of attack that this thing can.

      You can shoot a target from a long distance and to do those maneuvers the Su37 needs to go close to full stop. A sitting duck for a missile!
      You need speed and endurance.. No slow flight maneuvers..

      For shooting a jet from long distance you need,very big radar and a long range missile.For exapmle,F-22 has nothing from these two things.When war in Iraq started,Mig-29 has shooted down a Tornade with his cannon,so it was a close combat.

    The manuverbility of FA/22 is really far to be equal to F-15, not talk about russian aircraft here, us paid very much for each FA/22 not just for their ability of the stupid dogfighting. Dogfighting abilities is not important nowaday in air combat. All Su's variant are just the dancers of the sky, not the troop of the sky. i think so

    This plane is the best in the world, America's fighter planes ESPECIALLY the Raptor is OVERRATED, TOO hi tech which means more glitches and break downs. And if anyone really thinks that the Russians don't have many of these planes to in their war machine, you must be drunk.

      well, i tell u what i dont know much bout aviation but i certainly do know that ur 'fantascic, brand new, especially designed 8th generation F-16 were so damn good that when transported to polish air base thay had to land in germany coz of technical problems. i'd be more carefull when showing of this american superiority.

      u just dont get one point - su can land enywhere it wants - carrier, peace of road, long plain field even of ur damn roof if needen whereas ur all Fs must have a propper landing zone - well gues what do u attack first? airbases!
