    Skip directly to the part when 3 piles are left.


    Preliminary:
    (number of cards on table in any pile) =
    = 14 - (top card {when it's upside down})

    Analysis:
    (number of cards in deck) - (10 sum of open cards) = 52 - 10 - (number of cards to take from the deck to remove 28 cards from the deck, note that two open piles are already removed since they are on the table) =
    =42 - 28 = 14

    Since remaining 14 cards comprise both the
    pile with card closed and the number of
    cards remaining in the bunch, it follows
    (top card) = # of cards remaining in the bunch.

    The top card on the third deck is 14 - (cards in hand) or, if this gives a negative number, (28 - cards in hand).

      Go directly to the part when three piles
      are left. Analysis starts there.

      (number of cards in the deck) - (10 sum of two open cards) = 52 -10 - (cards to get from the deck to substract 28 cards from it, note two open piles on the table are already substracted from the deck) = 42-28 = 14

      However this 14 includes cards that are left
      in the remaining bunch and in the third pile on the table. Thus, (top card) = (number of cards left).
