Effect
An ordinary box of matches are opened up, only to find out that there are no matches inside. In need of matches, the magician begins to produce some out of thin air that he then uses to his benefit.
Preparation
Get a matchbox. Cut off a small square on the bottom, outer shell of the matchbox. (Make this a little bigger than three or four match heads.) Make this cut on one side of the box in the middle. Then take the inner shell and lightly tape three or four matches to the bottom, aligning the match heads with the square cut.
Method
Now this can be done a variation of ways. There is just one thing you need to remember. Always cover up the hole revealing the match heads. You can let them examine the matchbox, without letting them hold it. Just use your thumb to cover the hole up when you show the back side of the matchbox. The smoother you can get this move, the more realistic this effect will begin to seem.
The matches are still under the box, loosely hanging onto the tape. To get the matches in your hand you can use palming, distractions, interruptions, or whatever you feel comfortable doing to get the matches in your hand. What I like to do is hide this whole move behind my palm, while I secretly grab the matches.
Produce each match out one by one. After producing it, you can light it and do whatever you want with it. You can throw it on the ground, light some cigars, or begin a routine. Another option is to just not light it and put it into the box. If you completely want to bury the evidence of how you did the trick, you can even burn the matchbox once you get down to your very last match.
You can add as many matches to the shell of the matchbox, but remember the more matches you have, the bigger you will have to make the hole, and the more difficult it will be to hide the gimmick. As a beginner of this trick you may want to use one match, as the video demonstrates.
