This is the way to permanently display the Hibernate button in the Shutdown menu.

Contents of Hibernate.reg:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Shutdown]
"ShowHibernateButton"=dword:00000001

Editing the registry may damage your system. Use at your own risk!

  • PERFECT!!!!!!!!

    YOU ROCK!
    IT WORKED PERFECTLY FOR ME...
SOMEONE ELSE SUGGESTED THAT I SHOULD BE RIGHT CLICKING 'Microsoft' AND CREATE A SUB ENTRY 'System' and thereby doing the rest of the stuff which never worked for me.
But what you showed was perfect and worked in the very first attempt
    Thanks a gazillion!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Hotfix needed

The operating system should have the latest updates and a certain hotfix in order for this to work.

    • DIDNT WORK

I downloaded the latest updates and hot fixes and it still didnt work.
Secondly i can hardly read what's in the Hibernate.reg file. I had bring my laptop's screen 2 inches away from my eyes to view the text.
Please try and resolve the issues and reply!
      I appreciate your effort!

    • Tip

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for appreciating my effort.

I believe that this may be the key to solving your problem - go to support . microsoft . com and search for KB 893056. The search field is located on the right upper side of the site.

Regarding the contents of the file, they are included in the description of the video. You can view them by pressing "More".

    • Key does not exist; needs to be created.

      Follow Microsoft's directions:

      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893056

Note: if you export this key, the reg file will be different. Perhaps you should change the video?

  • Or

in your system BIOS, go to the Power menu and select Hibernate when the power button is pushed. Not all BIOS will support it, but mine does, and it also supports Standby.
