Polygonum aviculare or Common Knotgrass is related to buckwheat and dock. It is also known as birdweed, pigweed and lowgrass. An annual generally found in fields and wasteland, produces tiny white flowers between months ofJune to October.
The well known Herbalist Culpeper, stated that the plant is astrologically ruled by Saturn and Capricorn.
He recommended knotweed to assist in the conditions of blood in the mucus. Modern herbalists use it to treat dysentery, heavy menstrual bleed, bronchitis, jaundice, kidney and gall stones.
Polygonum aviculare, is an astringent, coagulant, diuretic and expectorant.
Dysentery formerly known as the bloody flux is a disorder of the digestive system which results in severe diarrhea containing mucus and or blood in the feces. Left untreated, dysentery can be fatal.

Jaundice, a yellowish discoloration of the skin, the whites of the eyes, and other mucous membranes caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the blood. The word Jaundice comes from the French word jaune, meaning yellow.
Kidney stones are solid concretions formed in the kidneys from dissolved urinary minerals. Somethimes sediment from the Kidney and urinary tract can be passed on into the Urine Bladder causing stones to form in the Bladder. These Stones when passing through the urinary tact can be painful and cause bloody urine as a result.

One way to use, is to take a sprig of the plant and brew for 10 minutes in boiling water strain and drink apart from the above healing properties it will also be useful for those suffering from prostrate problems.
