  • If you want true security...

    Use a wired network, that way no one can piggy back on your connection. Other than that, use WPA2 with a very LONG and non-sense password like 3s:2o93[2f9z9r3;a9f.
    Also, set up an Access Control List (a list that limits the ethernet IDs that connect to your network). That way, even if they break the password, they still can't connect.

    While adding WEP encryption to your router does help, it has been proven to be vulnerable to attack. If you want to be sure your network is properly protected, use WPA instead of WEP.

      I can hack wep easily because the important part of the packets aren't encrypted like wpa. Wep wasn't ment for the widespread use it accidentally took on. If you use wpa and a password that cannot be found through dictionary or short brute force attacks (like a1d2f5d65sd1w) then it is nearly imposible to hack.
      Ppl should know that using wep to a hacker is as easy as if there was no encryption at all, so always use wpa or wpa2 when posible.

      Really a WEB key will work fine if you’re looking to make your wireless network secure. Now, I'm sure if you're a business owner with a wireless network or if you’re a computer geek that is worried that his porn stash will be hacked into then do other wise.

    • It is better than nothing but....

      There is more to loose than your porn stash. Any1 who pays bills or buys anything online should be concerned. Most people don't go wardriving or w/e for money though, they do it for fun. Which means unethical people will "have some fun" messing with you. You could look at it as you have nothing to lose, and accept your stuff getitng ruined, or you can just forget all the hastle and use WPA.
      It's like me paying for dial up when I can have higher speed for the same price; it's just stupid to not use what is infront of you.
      I'm just saying, for all those who have new routers, the option will be there, and rather than choosing wep you should choose WPA. WEP is securing your wireless connection from people who know how to press connect, thats it. WPA will actually secure you against hackers if a good password is chosen.
