That doesn't impress me. A few years ago I came across a K6 that we took off the heatsink put butter on the processor, and fried ham while booting linux over and over. Son of a gun still works, never froze!

Now all AMD and Intel CPUs have thermal sensor.

I am looking foreword to buy a new motherboard for my desktop computer.. I think I have the same problem, and fan is running at highest RPM.. can't get the damn com to turn on at normal speed... we will c what happens... thx this kinda helps

That's 2001 demo! New AMD (it now owns ATI Video) processors are thermal protected, even cooler than Intel.

Intel and AMD 60nm process are too hot to be without cooling.
But you can look the data sheet and look the threshold.
And I know for experience that the 775 is way more hot than the 478, I have a 3.4 GHZ on 478 and my sister has a 3.06Ghz 775 socket and is way more hot, an idle temp of 50 C aginst an idle of 40 C.
