  • intresting...

I knew this was possible on XP pro computers with a slightly different command, but i guess 'pskill' is a solution that allows anyone with 2000 and up to do this. All in all - very handy.

wow - check out your mem usage in taskmanager after doing this, mine dropped from 350Mb to 120Mb! It really feels faster.

    • mine too

mine went from about 300 down to bellow 100Mb and only 17 processes. It was doable before with ctrl, alt, del but that takes way too long compared to this.

  • great find

works perfectly - fast and easy to stop those pesty services that have to startup but that you don't need after, esp clean access if your at a college campus.

nice tutorial. Works great, much better than having to do ctrl alt del multiple times. Plus a Microsoft sponsored command so its safe.

  • All these processes are running on start...

Why load them in the first place if you don't want them running?

Just load MSCONFIG from Start menu > Run > type: msconfig > then click the tab that says startup. Here you can uncheck all the startup items that you don't want to load.

Some programs like quicktime though will replace the startup item back the next time you loads quicktime, so with these annoying programs, you need to tell it not to in the options of the program. In quicktime it is in prefrences > Do not load in tray on startup - or something like that.

    • there are times when it will come in han...

this command is good for situations where you want as little running as possible. ie: for a game or some thing very processor or ram intensive.

There are certain apps or processes that you would want running, but then also have the ability to stop the when needed with the click of an icon. One example would be wireless software that you don't need running when you're on a hard-wire LAN playing a game.

      Hope this makes sense.

  • pretty dumb

Have you checked that friging list? You are kiling process that are important! , and if you want to get rid of non-important processes that are heavier the best way is to just avoid running them instead of finding fast ways to kill them...

    • Very Useful Actually

The person is probably killing those because they do not need them right then...they need them running (because they are Intel Wireless processes) So, its actually up to you which processes you want to kill if you are going to play a game or something at that time
